I just did this research for myself and from me the 7900GS was clearly the stepping stone to DX10 for me. It has great drivers, it's the right price (got mine for $140 shipped), & it overclocks like a beast. I have a eVGA card and it's quiet.

Edit: how many times does he have to say he doesn't want to buy an aftermarket cooler?

R600 under $300 FTW!!!!
Why is the x1950PRO good on a 975x mobo?

75£ = 150$

7900Gs, perfect hold over till dx10.

Evga, the company you want also has the step up.

Overclocks like hell. That gainward you posted is also one hell of an overclocker and runs quite cool. So it comes down to whether you like gainward or EVGA. And you said yourself you like EVGA.

Plus with this card you can join the I own the same card as "liermam and sora therefore i am better than you" club.

Btw, the one i linked you to runs ice cold and is fairly silent. People really have differing opinions on silence though. It's definetely not the loudest thing in my rig, but even if it were, i wouldn't give a damn since i've always got iTunes running or my headphones on.
I'm english

Not getting aftermarket cooling and I don't really care about overclocking gpu's tbh

I'm still english

My current feeling is to upgrade to the 7900gs that I linked earlier as it is silent and fairly good....but I can't fold on it or step up...
/wish's he could find an evga card...

on this page EVGA is the most expensive, but if you are going to jump up soon then it wont really matter.

I think you linked to this before.

Looks to me like you may need to put another £40 into the pot to really get what your looking for

Best bet is to wait a wee while, get an 80 or 120mm fan over your gfx and wait for Overclockers.co.uk to have the card you want in their deals of the week.

EDIT// 7600gt for small pennies

Look at it this way Niko:

1. Buy a Silent 7900GS for £115, don't overclock it (cos you don't want to) and get lower FPS in games and lower benchmark scores, also you can't fold on it
OR
2. Buy a Silent X1950Pro for £130 (the one with the Zalman cooler), don't overclock it and get higher FPS in games and higher benchmark scores, and you can fold on it.

To me it looks like £15 for a faster card and something you can fold on...

[Insert correct number here]. Buy eVGA 7900GS for whatever price because you will get just as much back when you upgrade to your dx10 card.

And yes, i know you're english, just giving you a rough estimate of exactly how cheap you can find the cards if you look hard enough.
