"Display Driver Has Stopped Responding and Just Recovered"

Hi,

I have an old X58 rig with two GTX 480s in SLI that misbehave when playing Skyrim.
I have been getting a lot of temporary lockups or long 30 second pauses when loading
a new level. The system becomes totally unresponsive and you just have to wait. Once
it even crashed to desktop and I saw "Display Driver Has Stopped Responding and Just Recovered"
error message. I have been overclocking the cpu trying to find its maximum limit and right
now that is 3.8ghz for my 920 D0 from 2.66ghz.

So far I've only noticed this in Skyrim. Other games play fine. I have my 'IOH' vcore at 1.25 volts and
notched up the nf200 chip one point. Are there any other overclocking tips in regards to applying voltage to ioh or ich to prevent video instability even though your system may pass prime? Anyone have had experience
with this particular error message?

thanks.

If you're using the 331.82 driver, it may be the culprit. Since installing it, I've had instability (including lockups) in skyrim and a few other games with my 580.

You know your the second person I've seen on the internet complain about that! And yes I'm using 331.82. Great.

Thanks.

Check out all the troubles 331.82 introduced to my 780 Ti rig.

I highly suggest you try the beta drivers I'm using. There is clearly something very wrong with 331.82.

I heard the latest beta release didn't do much and that peeps were recommending the 314.22. Its an old rig and honestly I moved Skyrim onto another machine using a 10 gb ramdisk. So much smoother. May take apart that other machine and scrap it.

Thanks.

I've had too many TDR's at the desktop and gaming using 331.82, 331.92, and even got some from the whql 332.21.

Decided to uninstall and reboot in safe mode and clean with DDU. Gonna try the WDDM 1.1 (331.65) from windows update and see how things go.

-Stock CPU i7 4770k
-1600MHz DDR3 9-9-9-24-128@2T (passed 5 memtest86+ with no errors)
-disabled MSI Afterburner from startup (so stock clocks)
-upped GPU vcore no help
-GPU cleaned and hardly hits 70c

Did look like enabling Max performance in nvidia control could help me some though but shouldn't have to do this!

Rig:
i7 4770k (CM Hyper212+)
Gigabyte GA-Z87X-UD4H-CF (using onboard LAN, Audio)
16GB (4x4gb) 1600MHz DDR3 low profile samsung memory
MSI GTX570 OC
Corsair TX 850W Non-Modular PSU
128GB Samsung 830 SSD (os drive)
256GB Sandisk Extreme SSD (game drive 1)
640GB WD Black (game drive 2, scratch drive)
2TB Seagate LP (storage)
