Overclocking CPU - Intel i7 930 - Page 5

okay so I ended up buy the Noctua NH-D14.. damn thing is huge!!!!! I have to take out the motherboard, here a pic of what it looks like with no cooling fan.. my only concern is that it looks like it will be very tight to the asus fan on the motherboard. Let me know what you guys think? photo.JPG 602k .JPG file

the older NOCTUA SE1366 NH-U12P would have served you well and I only use 1 fan on it - i dare say the newer one with a fan in the middle makes it bigger thumb.gif

Okay guys.. all done!!! I will be overclocking tonight.. on startup the CPU is at 22 degrees.. seems really good so far, can't wait to overclock!
hello mate - glad you got your heatsink on your m/board - the size of them biggrin.gif

Did you use the Noctua paste that came with it? Cos that's good as well!

Try OC on stock voltage and see what you get 1st thumb.gif

is the chip co or do ?

my temps were in the low 60's when stressed at 3.4 and that was with 1 fan on my setup.

The noctua model i got i found the 2 fans were not worth using 2 -3 degrees difference. So i took it off and used it as one of my front fans - quiter than the Lian Li PC fans

Banedox - that's good chip you have - can you give your OC specs on here? thumb.gif

i don't run mine at 4ghz as no need to at the moment!

I under volt to save electric redface.gif

Feel like upping it now that I'm on this thread biggrin.gif

Think i will have a play over the weekend and see what i can get at stock voltage thumb.gif

Sure thing, I actually am running a Xeon w3520 right now which i fireed at 1.65volts..... hehe got it to boot at 4.5ghz.... for

But for my D0 Chip, it has degraded a bit so it need a bit more voltage than when i first got it.

I am also using an Asus p6t deluxe 1st gen board so I am missing a few setting the later boards had.

But the important part is:

Multi 21x

Bclk: 191
QUI: Auto
Ram: 1600ish(forgot exact setting) timmings are 8-8-8-16-1T
vCore: 1.225
QPI/Dram: 1.5v

HT: ON
Just about all other settings off for the CPU
Turn Off all Spread Spectrum for CPU and PCI-E

Stress Test worked, and was stable!!!!! max cpu temp under 65C and Core 0 and Core 1 (not sure what the heck that means! lol) under 65C
I had to increase my vcore to 1.35.. nothing was stable at 1.3.. I'm showing 3.8ghz... will try for 4.0ghz after wink.gif

I'm going to run multiple ibt to make sure everything works, then run prime95.. if all works, then push it to 4ghz.. if possible wink.gif

Is your chip DO or CO - besides that 3.8 should be easy to get on a lesser voltage i would have thought thumb.gif
