Video Card Upgrade

Thread Starter
I had 2 GTX 470s running in SLI. One of them recently died on me causing BSODs and other issues. I have $150 in gift cards to Best Buy and would spend up to a total of $350 maybe a little more on a new card. Does anyone have any suggestions on an upgrade or replacement? System listed below is current. I would probably keep the working 470 to run physx.

Games I play/planning to purchase.
Planetary Annihilation
Bioshock Infinite
Project Eternity
Strohold Crusader 2
Dark Souls 2
Starcraft 2
Star Citizen

Here ya go. LINK And also: LINK
Thats what I would do. Rebated and free Batman game!
Also, I would reconsider using the 470 for physx. Do some research to see if you would actually benefit from it. From everything that I have seen a slower physx card hurts your overall performance and drops the performance of your main card.

I would stick with the one 470 till prices come down due to mining.
I think it would be best to sell your other working 470 and shoot for a 780 (non-ti). A dedicated physx card is just not worth it, especially with a 470. If you can't stretch your budget enough, go with a 770, but a 780 would be quite a lot better.
If you can sell the 470 for $100, sell it and add it to your budget and get a GTX 780. Even a reference one will do well at 1080p. And if your monitor is 120Hz capable, you can use all the GPU horsepower you can get.

Alternatively, keep the 470 for Phsyx and get a 290 if you can find one for $400 (that is supposed to be the official retail price afaik). But if the prices are higher than that (I saw the 290 priced at $499 on Best Buy), and you do not want to spend so much, then get a 770 ($379 on Best Buy) and use the 470 for Physx.

Hope this helps! Good luck! smile.gif

EDIT: Forgot to tell you this but, 290s from some particular brands (like XFX) sometimes unlock to 290X. So it's worth a shot. Even if it doesn't, a 290 is still a very powerful GPU.

Thats good advice. Selling the 470 would help you squeeze some more cash into the situation.

I wish I could stretch it that far. However depending on what I can get for my 470 I can bump the price up.

Eat ramen for a few days, sell something else you don't need, etc to make the little bit extra for a 780. You will be glad if you do.

If I were to go up to the 780 which would you guys recommend taking a closer look at?
