COD Ghosts is maxing out my processor. Cant believe it, but it is. I know the E8400 is very old now, but man it was fast when it came out and played a lot of graphic intensive games without issue. Ghosts doesnt seem to have any better graphics than past games, but man does suck the CPU down.

Im also hoping to pick up another 4gb of GSkill memory for $50 or so. So that puts me a $150 total for a decent upgrade.

how much you thinking it would cost me to get a newer style used processor/mobo/ram?

Dunno how those particular C2Q models hold up these days, however i've worked with several CPUs on both LGA775 and 1155 platform, and the LGA1155 Pentiums do just as good and even better than a Q6600 in gaming (i've owned both). Check out this benchmark from AnandTech, scroll to the bottom.
Yeah, it's a Pentium, and so what? As long as it outperforms your old CPU in the games you want is what really matters. An i3 would perform better in games that are more CPU demanding. But for Ghosts at Medium-High settings you'll be fine with the cheaper options.

One of those pentiums + a H61 motherboard will set you back around $100 in the U.S anyway, plus you said you were also going to buy new RAM regardless if im right?

To sum it up, it'll work out pretty much the same with a better FPS increase and a newer system overall if you dump the LGA775 platform.
