Doesn't panel self refresh require onboard RAM on the monitor itself?

VBLANK is part of the standard.... but it is optional. You probably won't find it in any desktop monitor today. Being the case, you would still need new monitors for this feature.

BTW, NVIDIA GPUs support VBLANK as well. (At least there's disabling it in Linux for NVIDA GPUs.)

i have been shown that gsync works. yes i will pay a premium for it.

its no different than the hundreds of folks on this forum that ditch their 780s for 780tis.... early adopters.. its what happens

EDIT: i should be more specific. i have been shown that gsync work in a desktop environment. when the videos of people seeing freesync and saying " this is life changing" start showing up, then ill start taking interest.

i bought AMD FX 6300 and i7 3770 (for my bro)

At fist i was kinda disappointed with AMD CPU...
But actually AMD is doing much more for us (users) that INTEL or NVIDIA.

WHY?
Intel - no more overclock-able i3 or dualcores(pentiums) ---- AMM?!!!
NVIDA physx, G-Sync ONLY for NVIDIA --- AMM?!!! killing GPUs with drivers,..

http://wccftech.com/nvidia-playing-dirty-gameworks-propriety-nature-pose-serious-danger-amd-dev-s-power-diluted/

AMD
MANTLE, HSA, TRESS FX (soon 2.0)
price drops on GPUs... great prices for FX 6300/FX8320/Athlon x4
great prices for new mobos 88X...

(almost bought i3 over FX 6300 but my friend convinced me "get FX")
I loved NVIDIA GT 8800/GTX 470 ... also INTEL i3 530 (4,2Ghz), quad cores, CD E8500 4,5GHz great CPUs...

Now i can only say that AMD is doing great JOB. I love my FX 6300 4,5GHz even if it is slower than i5...
I hope that HSA will give great boost to kaveri...

No you won't. You will just make something else up that you don't like about AMD and some reason why nvidia does it better. FTR this is free sync thread, not a g sync thread, nvidia threads are elsewhere.

so you're happier with your slower CPU because you think that AMD is doing more for gamers/users??,

LoL @ the need to justify your purchase

I really could not care less about either of these technologies considering every game i play, i play in windowed fullscreen.

They really need to fix that part of this, gonna lose sales big time (Every wow player i knows plays in windowed fullscreen, and how many million WoW players are there?)

no, i wont. i can assure you, if amd was putting out Shield, Shadowplay, Gsync, etc, i would be behind them. i actually like AMD, and have had their stuff in my own stuff, and used amd to build for others.

it just so happens that freesync isnt gsync, and isnt even close to it. you guys are acting as if gsync is over before it started because of something running on 2 laptops.

its not being displayed on a desktop monitor. still have to buy a supporting monitor for this to work. gsync is out, and ready to be bought by consumers. freesync is barely at the beginning, and only shown to draw attention away from gsync.

there is nothing about freesync that makes me want to wait for it. imo if amd had something like this sitting around, it was a mistake for them to not build on it earlier. once people start seeing gsync in action, its gonna be everywhere.

Exactly, and if g sync is half as successful as you think it's going to be you don't think monitor manufacturers like samsung, dell, LG will see how much money they are losing to asus, and enable this for free sync and start advertising "free sync compatible" ??
