Hmm? He basically just paraphrased a key part of the article that most here seemed to overlook.

"AMD isn’t ready to productize this nor does it have a public go to market strategy, but my guess is we’ll see more panel vendors encouraged to include support for variable VBLANK and perhaps an eventual AMD driver update that enables control over this function."

I don't see what all the excitement is over this. We don't know whether this can match G-Sync's functionality, let alone if it will even see the light of day in the desktop market.

People also seem to have not read another key part of the article

The Satellite Click in question uses AMD’s low cost Kabini APU, which already has the requisite hardware to support variable VBLANK and thus variable display refresh rates

The monitor still requires the hardware support, something desktop monitors lack.

FreeSync is not GSync alternative.

FreeSync uses variable VBI, meaning the driver needs to setup the proper VBI for the next frame, therefore requires the driver to predict the future. If the app isn't running in constant FPS, then FreeSync will fail when FPS changes, and you will still see stuttering. Also, you need to enable VSYNC, therefore you still have the lag issue that GSync solves by working without VSYNC. Sure you will have a better experience, but not as good as GSync. With FreeSync you will have have software overhead, and if you predict conservatively you lose FPS, if you predict aggressively you might end up with more stuttering than plain VSYNC.

GSync solves the problems by holding VBI until the next frame is drawn, therefore there is no speculation, so it works under all circumstances. You simply can't do that in software, because software runs on the computer, not the monitor. You have to have a monitor smart enough to wait for the next GPU command to do the drawing, and that's why NVIDIA has to do it with a separate board. There is no VESA standard for that.

GSync is "GPU drives VBI," whereas FreeSync is "driver speculates VBI." The outcome can be close, but one is superior than the other.

There’s apparently already a VESA standard for controlling VBLANK intervals. The GPU’s display engine needs to support it, as do the panel and display hardware itself. If all of the components support this spec however, then you can get what appears to be the equivalent of G-Sync without any extra hardware

Speaking for G-Sync. Is that even possible in Mobile? That PCB alone is bigger then the PCB most laptops have now.

GSync module is big now because it is a FPGA. Going from FPGA to ASIC is easy, and from the size of the FPGA I am sure NVIDIA can make a tiny chip. It is still unknown how hard it is to get it into mobile, but size won't be the problem.

Exactly, this might just be talk from AMD to try and steal hype (even though they dont have anything).

For AMD to do something people have to have G-Sync monitors and talk about how great they are. Someone has to make it clear that we all need this technology. If people dont push them they will let things go but knowing they will see how good G-Sync is they will have to respond.
Not having a Nvidia GPU i am not going to be a early adopter. One day we will all enjoy this amazing technology. The minimum i am willing to buy is 1440p/IPS or better/ 60Hz + with 4K preferable.

What sounds better people?

"Buy our GPU and if you have a compatible monitor it just works"

or

"Buy our $100 G-sync module and attach it to monitor or a new monitor and buy our GPU"

It's not even the same as G-SYNC.
