Tuniq vs rest of the world

post #1 of 20
Thread Starter
All i've been hearin about in air cooling is TT120! Everyone says it's the king which is why it appears and vanishes from stores in a matter of seconds! So, how does this cooler compare with other big names like scythe infinity and big typhoon? Is the performance gap really wide or is it just a matter of 1 or 2Cs? Which is the second best? I need to overclock my E6600 to atleast 3.ghz and am looking for an aircooling solution as temps go really high on stock HSF at 3.0Ghz!

The Thermaltake Big Typhoon is the second best CPU cooler that a lot of people use. Get the VX and put a Silverstone FM121 fan on it and you'll have temps that rival the Tuniq Tower's. The Zalman 9700 is also well known as being a great cooler, and Zalman's are so well lapped stock that you wouldn't need to lap it for great temps (you pretty much NEED to lap the BT)

The Scythe coolers are good too, and given that you have a roomy case and a popular mobo, chances are the Scythe Infinity, Ninja, or Mine would all fit, giving you good temps that would rival the BT or TT120.

I am running a Zalman 9700 (Not a 9500).. and have been at 3.2Ghz Stable OC with it, and running 54C Full Load using TAT

I MIGHT get 1 or 2 C from a different cooler.. but for significant improvements, it's liquid from here

or maybe for an extra 5-6 degrees cooler youll want to lap your heatsink for smoother contact with the cpu.

My TT120 has given me ~15C drop in load temps from the stock cooler.

Needless to say, I'm happy

Final Score:

Tuniq = 1
Rest of the world = 0

...well sorta, all the tower coolers with massive surface areas and that are compatible with a 120mm fan are good.

Look to Swiftech for your water cooling needs.
