Xeon 5460 in 775 board help - Read First.

Thread Starter
Okay, since the 771 to 775 thread has become a heated debate about Arctic Silver 5 and its dielectric properties, I decided to make a thread. I've been waiting for almost 8 hours, but the world's most epic thermal compound debate is underway. Woe is me.

Here's my issue:
New motherboard - MSI P35 Platinum
2xGTX460
2x4GB Corsair XMS PC6400
1000W Seasonic

Modded the motherboard to fit the Xeon, put it in, no post.

Put my E8400 in, posted first try, okay cool.

Put Xeon back in, it posts! Checking memory... 4096MB Dual Channel.... and FREEZE. (Yes, using only 4GB for testing).

My bios updates from MSI's website say they have added microcodes in many recent updates. Mine is from '07 and the latest 2011 if I am not mistaken.

Could this be a BIOS update issue? Also, would I need a customized bios?

Furthermore... Is there a way to add bios files and access them with UBCD? I already have it on my flash drive, and it would be very simple and convenient if there is a way.

Thanks a lot in advance. Just got this stuff in the mail, I'm so anxious to blow it up. biggrin.gif

Try the latest official BIOS first. If you can't flash with the Xeon, put your old CPU back in to do the flash.

If that doesn't work, use the guide in 00000's sig (I'm sure I missed a 0 or 2, but he's in the mod thread you referred to).

Dude this motherboard is off the wall. Seriously.... I did put my E8400 in it to research and reflash bios... 4.881 stable @ 1.734v just played a game of League. Temps are peaking at 70c fans 100%. I'm severely impressed.

Brb flashing bios, will let you know.

Okay I cant get the bios to flash... Made a bootable USB... there are 2 files - the EXE and the BIOS File. I launch the EXE, then try to launche the bios file with it: "Error Reading file"
I tried 3 different bios updates, formatted usb idk how many times... what am i missing here?
