It's the fact Newegg is selling cards for 200% MSRP and changing prices every other day

They are so pathetic right now that their website can't even keep up with their gouging
MSI $599
You click link and its $699
Then 3 days pass and now its $899

The site doesn't update prices, search engine has different prices, there is cards you can't search for but can click through links from other cards. It's a mess, a true mess frown.gif

580*1.55==899

155% MSRP*

Still absurd though, you might as well pitch in $100 more for a GTX Titan at those prices.

I remember when me and the OP were discussing why he thought the prices were stabilizing biggrin.gif seems my opinion was on point

Well his predictions were long term, and only a month has gone by. As soon as ASICs hit the market these won't cater to hardcore miners anymore, plus once AMD get's their act together low supply shouldn't be bad, so his predictions might very well work out in the not so distant future. ASICs are planned to hit the market in 2nd-3rd quarter 2014, and AMD I'm sure doesn't plan to ignore this.

So short term, yeah, prices are going to keep going up. By 3rd quarter 2014? They should drop by then.

The problem is there is no short term in the GPU market though. By 3rd quarter 2014, Maxwell will be around the corner to finish off ruining the potential this series had for the gaming market. I have little problem with that in and of itself, GPU progress is GPU progress, but if what you say is true, this series that did near everything right from good frame latency, the introduction of bridgeless crossfire, game performance, compute performance, ample amounts of VRAM, Mantle, TrueAudio, high pixel fillrate and resolution for those high-res screens/multi-monitor setups, and what was supposed to be price, etc. ends up barely making a pitiful fraction of the impact it should have made. AMD/ATi really could have used that boost.

Have the price drops begun? I just read my pcpartpicker price drop e-mail and it has a bunch of 270x/280x/290/290x's dropping hundreds of dollars on sites like NCIX, B&H, and SuperBiiz. Not sure if this is just a weekend sale or a sign of things to come.

Guys, these R290's are nothing special. Newegg isn't doing anything shady.

Have any of you gone to your local store today to buy a dozen roses? You'll see exactly the same thing going on.

Our conversation was not based on the long term. Was based on the short term price drop which he mentioned a possibility of stabilization while I mentioned the complete opposite. A quick dump of prices to sell out stock.

Asics are a myth to scrypt mining unless you physically went to China and have one. You speak of asic scrypt miners as if they provide 500% hash for 500% less watt consumption. Until one is made they hold no weight, don't fool yourself thinking there are 1000 scrypt asic's being made. IF any are being made it is for the people making them and their friends. If you were around a few years ago you would notice the nonsense it was to buy a butterfly labs asic and other asics.

You spend $2000-5000, you wait 3months-1year. By the time you received your hardware , everyone has made profit but you. You try to make profit and the difficulty is increased so much that now your spending far longer then everyone to profit.

If you are referring to alpha tech then read http://www.reddit.com/r/litecoinmining/comments/1uveun/alpha_technologys_scam_team_akram_akram_akram_and/
If you are referring to gridseed then there is a chance some asics will be released

Comparing roses to graphics card is like comparing Milk to truck tires.

same economic principle.

Try buying skiiing equipment during the winter compared to off season.

Same principle.

Try buying a superbowl ticket a day before the game.

Same principle.
