From the temps I've seen posted, the PowerColor is the best.

Umm no, I own a Tri-X. Read all the reviews you want, it is quite loud. Not as loud as the DCII, but much louder than the ACX cooler I had previously. The PCS cooler is apparently much much quieter.

Last I checked ACX cooler doesn't exist on R9 290s.The TDPs are different on GTX cards, usually much lower (even more so if it's gaming).

You can't compare cards that aren't even Hawaii because you might as well compare it to a R9 270.

And I never said it was on a 290... I said the Tri-X is much louder than my previous cards which had ACX cooler. What does TDP have to do with noise level when you have fans set to the same RPM? The Tri-X is a loud cooler. Read the 290 owner forums where others agree with me.

The PCS cooler is quiet, and very nice. Even at 75% fan speed it's not terribly loud. The ASUS DCU2 sounds like an airplane near 60%, and still gets to like 75-ish degrees at stock clocks. I have tested now 3 different 290x's, all non-reference, and in order of noise (low to high) I rate them PCS, Gaming, and DCU2. In order of heat (low to high) I rate them PCS (70c max), DCU2 (77c max), and Gaming (86c max). Now before anyone jumps in and tries to defend the Gaming 290x, I probably got a bad sample and didn't want to void the warranty by replacing thermal paste (MSI tech support confirmed, if the sticker is broken, you are forfeiting your warranty) so I told them my story and they told me that it is likely defective and offered my money back. All temps and noise ratings reflect stock clocks. ASUS and MSI were tested in my case with a huge amount of airflow, positive pressure of course, and the PCS is being tested in my case with an XSPC AX240 Raystorm on my CPU (2 1800 rpm Scythe GTs), and only a side-panel 140mm pulling heat out.

I know some of you guys (Archie and Hulk namely) advised against the Gaming 290x, and I went against that advice. I got a bad one. I'm not making the numbers up. It hit 86c at 1040 mhz in an extremely well-ventilated case. MSI, you have wounded me...

Also I'm sorry Archie and Hulk. I will never doubt again.

The PCS maxed at 70 and bounced between 68-70 during 1.5 hours of Far Cry 3. Powercolor really hit the ball out of the park with this one. Can't wait to get it under water...

The PCS is apparently a bad OCer though. Numerous users on here have reported less than stellar OC results. The tradeoff for that is you get the best aftermarket air cooler of any of the cards.
