Total HD to End Blu-Ray Vs. HD DVD War - Page 2

Finally, someone has noticed that with one format everyone wins.

Quote:
“The next best thing is to recognize that there will be two formats and to make that not a negative for the consumer. We felt that the most significant constituency for us to satisfy was the consumer first, and the retailer second. The retailer wants to sell hardware and doesn’t want to be forced into stocking two formats for everything. This is ideal for them,” said Barry M. Meyer, the chairman and chief executive of Warner Brothers, said in an interview with the New York Times news-paper.
As previously said, there probably will still be a winner in the format war but this is a nice contingency plan for the time being.

This doesn't end it. There will still eventually be a winner and a looser. My bet is on blu-ray failing

This can't end the format war - the drive manufacturers still have to choose. Given Sony's format history and the state of the PS3 - $50 says HD-DVD will come out on top

How about getting those prices down? Could careless about the format, Blu-Ray will take over, it's obvious but I think it's time for the $200 Blu-Ray players.
sucks for those people who spent 1000+ on ablu ray player, since these discs will work on those and the 700 dollar cheaper HD DVD player. people will be pissed.

wow this came out of leftfield??? Since when are WB designing optical disks? Have they always been doing this and I just didn't hear about it?

Also, re: Speedup... true that, ffs, when is the world going to learn people don't want media they can scratch and break and shoot with a bbgun. I'd prefer to walk into a video store and buy a movie and then have it downloaded onto my memory stick/laptop/iPod...etc, would save on packaging and no finicky discs to go missing
