This is the best running simulator yet.

So good when you've all geared up, to then realise there's nothing to do.

At least add some on map missions (like arma wasteland mod)

maybe even bounties that appear on certain players, revealing their position on the map, with rewards for killing/defending of course.

a concern to me is the north spawns. (I've quit playing since)

This game needs a lot of work if it's going to be anything different from the old mod.

Might play again in a year, get a car going, realise there's nothing to do and quit again.

Well DayZ is one of the VERY few games where you can actually decide yourself what to do. No Quest Log or NPC that tells you what to do. I like it that is feels so much like a real zombie apocalypse (well you know what I mean). Noone is going to tell you "Go and kill 20 Zombies at Elektro for 200 Zombiepoints. That is your daily Quest" in a real zombie apocalypse. You are very much on your own. That is what DayZ is trying to deliver.

But of course it still needs a lot of work. More zombies, better performance, more items etc.

I don't think we've played the same game then... after you get some decent gear you should be looking for stuff to do with or against other players. Typically this involves banditry or taking out the bandits.

I purchased it because I wanted to check it out but also to support the dev team. I played for about 45 mins and now I won't play it again for quite some time. Still has a long way to go, but I don't regret spending my $30 on it.

Been there done that many times, I can sit in cherno on a building and pick people off, but it gets boring, very fast.

What happens when you have a large group and can't find any action? there has to be objectives, or at least places of interest.

If you've ever played the arma 3 wasteland you'll know what I mean about bounties, they are brilliant, and with no helicopters to fly away in, it would work perfectly for dayz.

sure there's good action sometimes, I just feel it could be a bit more flowing.

There has to be more, or it's just a nicer looking arma 2 mod.

edit - A bounty could be applied when a bandit has reached a certain criminal level? That's one of my ideas.

Why do you need someone to tell you what to do?

Start dominating servers, imposing your own rule, start destroying clan servers and their caches. Knock them back to the stone age. It's so fun planning things like that out.

If you have a large group that can't find any action, try playing on a more populated server or try a different area. Doing something that's interesting makes the game interesting for both parties- If you want to be a bandit, don't hide in a bush 500m away from anything and watch the top of a firestation for people with no gear... check out the city carefully to make sure nobody is sniping it, then go in and hold some people up. Force them to remove their clothing and wear something that makes them look ridiculous, then leave them alone tongue.gif. You could even stalk them for a bit to make sure they don't wear anything else.

Either way though, just like in the mod, some private servers will have wasteland style missions. Just don't expect that to ever be in the main game, as it goes against what DayZ is trying to accomplish.

Fast forward year from now, I predict :

still 20-30 zombies for a whole map, zombies going through walls, city FPS at 20-30 fps, as for those with some rationality would understand that ARMA 2 engine sucks, and instead of developing things, they are "trying out" each random function they think would be nice to have in the game, praying the engine , might, just barley might allow them to do so.

They need to hire a whole new squad of people to help them build this game up, the current few guys we see, with Dean Hall are the guys that learned how to code/mod the game to some extent, but to build up on the engine or to rewrite most of the stuff that would really be important, these guys don't have a clue how to do that, so if they stick out with the same few guys for long, all we will see is crap, forced upon an engine that runs like crap from the get go.

I wanted this to become a zombie survival game, but with the lack of zombies, as most likely the game, and servers cant render in an efficient way more then 50 of them at once, the fanboys and developers try to sugar up and cover our eyes with the only thing you can do in the game, kill people, so instead of the zombies which should be the first major feature, they try to throw the idea of " survive against other players!" as the WHOLE POINT of the game....Please.... might as well go play some Battlefield 3 map, play with 5 people, and camp around and see who last longest.

For now I stand behind my opinion, I hope I'm wrong, but for now I stand by this: the engine sucks, frames will never improve, only if they rewrite huge parts of the engine to optimize it ,Bohemia Interactive would need its engine coders/writers for this one, not some DUDE that likes to mod in his free time.

I'm pretty confident Rocket won't let the community down. These sales are around $25M+ in revenue.

30 zombies per map will definitely improve to the point there's a similar number of zombies to the mod. Zombies glitching through walls... I give 50-50 chance tongue.gif. I know they tried unsuccessfully to fix it in the mod (the fix gave a performance hit we all know nobody could afford).

As for the cities FPS- This is obviously a flaw in the core engine for the Arma games. You can see this by the fact that Arma 3 still has the same problem. Given that, and the fact that DayZ is using a mixture of Arma 2 and 3's engine, I think anyone expecting that to ever change has set themselves up with unrealistic expectations. For this to change, Bohemia needs to do a deep overhaul of their engine, which you could hope to see for Arma 4, but not for DayZ. That sort of thing would need to be done before an Alpha build, and we aren't even sure they want to take the time\$$ to do that for Arma 4, much less go back and do it for DayZ which is already selling well despite having a bare minimum amount of content.

rocket already said on his stream they plan to have around 200 zombies per town(obviously not every single town) and they will spawn OUTSIDE of the town then walk inwards the town. Also this is only the surface; they plan to have 120 people servers.. I seriously cant wait.
