[PCG]DayZ sells over 875,000 copies in the first three weeks - Page 4

To me player-secured housing is what would really make the deal.

As in, you can craft kits that allow you to barrage and secure a building, and lock it away from other people, unless you're dumb enough to leave it open or badly secured.

I played the original mod for many hours, but grew bored of it because there wasn't much to do. Yeah, killing people, sabotaging clans, or just jerking around carrying a load of stuff. All of it grew boring fast because of no sense of progression.

You might have loads of equipment, but can't progress to have somewhere you can call your home, you can't do things you would do to survive, for instance use gathered stuff to build other items, recover generators, appliances, water pumps, gas tanks, whatever, to create a hideout for yourself where you can safely cook food, sterilize recovered medicine so you can't get infections from using leftover syringes (this could be a good idea), or install a generator in your home to have access to power tools to turn trash into knives, tools, protection devices, or just stronger barricading items... Maybe bits and bobs to repair vehicles.

The possibilities are endless, and the game as it stands offers very little of those.

Dying and starting over is part of dayz. Of couse it gets boring holding and killing yoru AS-50 for 6 hours. Go exploring and make encampments, hide cars, make a run to NWAF or NAF, you could die, but thats the fun of it, starting over and surviving, Play it with friends, its alot more fun.

So basically the point of DayZ is being evil towards other players? Really evil? Evil like this?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vvf1UC67Gro

^That was so evil I laughed pretty hard. It's like.. drama. It's seriously like a drama show except you create the dramaa. There's so much drama potential in this game tbh.

I love how dropping something on the ground means " give it 30-60 seconds and you can pick it up"
Same as "playing with friends" yea....I don't find walking and trying to meet up with someone, while trying to survive the journey before we even meet up. That itself might take from 30min-2 hours! Unless they will have a system where somehow it doesn't take me forever to meet up with someone, I'm not going to recommend this game to any of my personal friends, I will feel embarrassed and guilty to recommend a game like that, its beyond "UNFRIENDLIEST GAME TO PLAY WITH YOUR FRIENDS!" in realistic terms, but yes some might say " buts its the part of the game" ....well I'm not a 16 year old from high school , with god knows what kind of free time on hand, to spend 2 hours looking for people before we can have any kind of fun!

You can log out at any time and start where you left off. Me and a buddy couldn't find each other until we each found a map. Then we really just followed the shore/road. I just made sure the ocean was on the right and from his point of view it was on the left. But yeah, I agree I wish I could find my buddy quicker. I am still new though, maybe there's some better way.

Personally I'm hoping over time it will mature since its in beta.

We've got a pretty good discussion thread here for discussing the gameplay (people don't like off topic posts bumping news all the time tongue.gif)

http://www.overclock.net/t/1451589/dayz-standalone-early-access-discussion-thread

As you play more, you will be able to recognize cities quite quick, especially the ones on the coast. Then you can meet with friends fairly fast, unless they spawn really far from you... if that happens the best thing is for one of you to jump off the first cliff you find to get a closer spawn.

Also, use online maps: http://dayzdb.com/map/chernarusplus

I really despise War Z devs for naming their inferior game so similar to this game. I always have to think for a second when I see the title to make sure I know which game they're talking about. Anyways, I saw the videos of it when it was newish, absolutely loved the concept. I thought the idea of being able to get robbed or rob people is really, really cool. But that's from an outsider pov, I am sure in-game it's a pretty bad experience if you got good gear. But it seems buggy, I'll get it when it's a fully functional game with minimal/acceptable bugginess.

The WarZ changed it's name to Infestation: Survivor stories to get around the terrible publicity it got after launch, and also dodge any potential lawsuits from DayZ or World War Z. They then immediately put it on sale in a steam sale so as many people would buy it without realizing what it was lol.

I enjoyed the standalone for about 2 days then got bored out of my mind. I would have thought they would be a bit further with the time they had.

For those that left dayz because of lack of content you should check out the DayZ Epoch mod for ArmA 2. It's the most popular ArmA 2 mod out and has loads of content.

I can't wait for the standalone to have content like Epoch.
