VIA 6421 SATA PCI

I'm probably just being dumb, but I bought a sata card for my pc and I can't figure out where to plug it in on my motherboard. It seems like that my board is too new for the card to work.

hello,
In your pci slot? On mine it would be located between my 2 pci-e slots.

I have two types the really small pci and the pci for the graphics card.

If this is old-school legacy PCI, your motherboard has nowhere to plug it in. You can however grab an ADAPTER but they're expensive. If it's PCIe but bigger than x1, then just stick it in an open x16 slot. If the card physically fits then it ought to work, though it may have limited bandwidth or be a waste of up to 15 lanes. Can you give a link to the SATA card?

Yeah, if its your sig rig, there is no PCI slots on that board.

Any particular reason you need to use that card ?

Ah right ! Yeah there are adapters out there to do what you want, but it would probably be cheaper to pick up an old Dell/HP prebuilt and install the card into that !

I have a friend that never uses his early 2000 desktop I could possibly get for free. But is it worth the hassle to have a separate computer to do it on? I can find a pci-e to pci for about 30$
