Give us displayport any day!!!

The only thing out of date is your post. HDMI 2.0 was officially announced with approved specification on September 4, 2013, published by many tech sites and thats the date of your so called news article.
BTW DisplayPort supports 4K at a full 60 frames per second same as HDMI 2.0, anyway 4 monhs old article is definitely not any news.

Panasonic WT600 with noticeable backlight banding issues. Such a shame!!

Its hard to spot in store but many people are complaining about and have recieved replacements and have still got the same issue. Its a fundamental floor with the back lighting design and is the reason why my next set will be a FALD or a TRILUMINOS like my current Sony 4k.

I really don't think you can comprehend what all of this means. I didn't notice it was an old article but that just fuels the flame that in 2 years time we will all be complaining that hdmi 2.0 was a bare minimum upgrade. This is exactly what the HDMI Founding members wanted!
HDTV prices were getting to competitive and became stagnant. So they bring out 3D, 4K and OLED sets and charge a premium. They stop making Plasma and will eventually come to a near stop on 1080p sets (just like with 720p). 4K will push on and everyone will adopt it and once that's competitive they will move on to 8K for their top of the range sets and after that who knows???

Its funny how you can have 4K tvs released and there is not any components that will use the HDMI 2.0 port? Where are the 4K Blu Rays? Where are the GPU's with HDMI 2.0? I wouldn't mind betting that HDMI will be updated to 2.1 before we see a 4K Disc Player.

HDMI is the mechanism that continues to make bunny's buy new TV's, AV Receivers, Content players etc. Its a vessel to restrict users from having a long life product. Yes it will work till it dies but you want be able to use any of the other new gadgets that come along.

HDMI 2.0 will not do 8K! But that isnt for a while (5 - 10 years?). DP1.3 will however and that's because they want it to work now and well into the future. Its for computers, businesses and media etc - these are always the cutting edge of tech and will continue to push us forward into the future.

Who is buying all these 4K TVs? Most buyers are in China; the country accounts for 87 percent of 4K TV purchases in 2013. NPD predicts that by 2014, sales in China will make up 78 percent as other countries start buying as well, but through 2016, China is expected to buy more 4K TVs than the rest of the world combined.

Meanwhile, plasma TVs and CRT-TVs (those old tube TVs — yes, they still exist) are on the decline and are expected to disappear entirely from the market by 2016. LCD TV shipments are projected to grow steadily through 2017, and will dominate the majority of TV sales. Overall, total TV shipments are expected to grow by about 1 percent in 2014, to a total of 229 million units worldwide.

I just wish TV manufacturers who produces 4K TV's will add DisplayPort on their products, why not? And currently there isn't any GPU that has HDMI 2.0 support. Its quite disappointing that none of the new TV's unveiled at CES 2014 has DisplayPort support either.

You do have a point, if tv's (not monitors) come with VGA, why not remove vga and add Display port instead. Also add adapter to VGA or DVI since those are the most used in computers today.

DisplayPort is already great and easily way better than HDMI, it's just that HDMI is already on everything.
