Managed to bring back to life a ASUS 6970 that had really bad artifacts and 99% of the time wouldn't post.

Thought the issue would be bios related when I purchased but the obvious issue I noticed was it had a nearly 10 degree flex in the board! ohno-smiley.gif

The one picture of the card laying down is after I already gave it a early 180F reflow which got it to post once with less artifacts.

I should have took a few more pictures throughout the process before and especially during.

Long story less long. I remembered the trick from fixing flexing in XBOX 360s was throwing the mother board in the oven at about 200F degrees for a while (hot enough to take out flexing but not hot enough to melt plastic)

Gave that a couple shots on this card and some new thermal paste. BAM! Good as new thumb.gif

As for the rest of all the stuff I have out is for the three x1 to x16 powered risers on the way.

Going to try seeing how many cards I can run off this old GIGABYTE GA-965P-DS3.

Current cards:

EAH6970 DCII/2DI4S/2GD5 (fixed!)
EAH6950/2DI2S/2GD5
SAPPHIRE VAPOR-X HD 5850 1GB

Hoping the EVGA 1000 watt PSU can run it all! redface.gif

Glad you had the time and patients to do what I could never have!

Best $20 you spent I'd say.

Let me know how many cards you get running safely on that board. I have the same board. biggrin.gif

So I've done a LOT since last post:
  • Grabbed a Gigabyte 6850 for fourth card. (was doing around ~225KH/s)
  • Got my 3 PCIe 1x-16x Powered Risers in the mail.
  • Fried that current mobo (possibly cpu too. haven't tested yet) by accidentally pulling the 4-pin molex wires out one the risers and putting em back in wrong..redface.gif
  • Bought a replacement mobo/cpu/ram for really good deal.
  • Got everything setup, but can't fit any card on mobo in the PCIe x15 slot with the risers/pcie plus so close. (Behold the power of Campbell's CHUNKY SOUP! tongue.gif
  • Decided to try building case. Went a little overboard then original simple design. biggrin.gif

Everything is running smooth so far now. Temps around 71C or less. Getting around ~1300KH/s total. thumb.gif

PCIe x16-x16 Riser is in the mail on the way already.

Next up is getting the 4th card in and hoping I have enough power and don't burn out the mobo or a plug.

Might add a small bracket on case for the SSD. Could just screw it down or zip-tie it.
