Suggest new gaming rig - Page 2

i only just upgraded from an i5 2500k to an i7 3770k and i only went for the i7 cause the motherboard was £100 cheaper than a new one

i dont notice much differance beetwen the i5 and i7 not even with doubling the ramm so im going to rebuild the i5 and use it

befor i hade the i5 i hade a q9550 and when i hade it overclocked it was faster than an i7 920 but i did notice the diferance moving from the q9550 to the i5 2500k

That will work. if you're interested in keeping it for a while i'd go for the i7 though if you can. Gaming is moving toward 8 core. Both new consoles are 8 core, and consoles control the direction of gaming.

That sticker mod posted is interesting, too bad i didnt know about it when i bought the gigabyte ep45 board to oc the q66, none of my lga775 mobos are compatible with the mod.

Im going to either go with the 8350 or i7.

The 8350's seem like a nice chip for the $ ...i just dont like the power consumption and heat deal.

my problem too. i got an intel dp45sg i can do surgery on that no one has tried yet, but it's a weird board and my hopes are not high.

The heat output of the i7 and 8350 are actually almost identical. haswell in particular runs very hot. Will suck less power though. any of those chips need to be overclocked, so they're going to need a big cooler and fans.

Arent those intel boards the ones that people had to do pencil mods on? Cant remember...

Anyway, any ideas on realistic performance differences between say... playing battlefield 4 on max on a fx8350 clocked to 4.5ghz vs a i7 clocked to 4.5ghz (saying vid card and everything else is identical)

Are we talking just a few frames per second or would it be more substantial?

Dayz which im currently playing is pretty cpu intensive... im only getting fps in the 20's..... not sure if its my cpu or gpu or both thats lacking.

(Again 3.2ghz q6600, and overclocked 650ti)

Kind of wondering if just a better graphics card would help.

There i go.... got to keep reminding myself that this rig is almost 7 years old.... guess its just best to build a new rig and take advantage of cheaper and faster system ram while im at it.

Ive always built my own rigs but a buddy keeps telling me about cyberpowerpc, is that an option or is it still cheaper to build myself?

For gaming keep intel, for apps that uses more than 4 cores/threads go with i7/fx 8320

I'm a long time AMD user {poor boy}
If you have it in your budget to get a i7 DO
It hurts me to say but the i7 beats anything AMD has to offer
If you plan on running it 7yrs like your current build
The i7 will handle the upcoming Video cards better than the AMD
The 8350 is on a DEAD socket so no advantage from upcoming CPU
Also if you can handle the extra$ I'd go with the 770
Selling your old card will help recoup some of the money or even consider SLI with a bigger PSU
Mite hold you till you can get a better card
