[TR] Nvidia responds to AMD's ''free sync'' demo - Page 8

Everybody needs to stop getting so offended by the fact another company has a different less hassle of a solution tothe customer than nvidia gasp. Nvidia is evil like Apple and wants to keep all the secrets to themselves. Proprietary hardware is not the solution and will never win the market. Wait for displayport 1.3 folks
post #72 of 321
Well, I'm about done with this thread. As usual, there is so much misinformation and Fanboyism it isn't even funny.

Someone wake me up when:

1) The Display Port 1.3 specification is finalized.
2) When the DP1.3 standard is finalized, that there is support of "variable frame rates for VBLANING" (something that doesn't exist in DP1.0, DP1.1, or DP1.2 but only for the eDP spec).
3) When multiple monitor manufacturers go on public record saying that they will, FOR FREE develop and install a new ASIC to take advantage of "FreeSync".
4) When AMD actually releases a driver that will PUBLICLY (and not from some hacked together demo with a custom driver) release a driver.

Until ALL the above happen, this is just a "proof of concept" hack and a PR stunt to TRY to steal nVidia's thunder with just another AMD "Johnny Come Lately" stunt.

Peace!

I dont have anything against amd, especially since i own more of their products in my house atm than you have probably even dreamed of.

what i do have something against is a company marketing something they cant actually do.

so for your argument and useless posts -

I don't need to follow you around, you can be seen raging to anything AMD in every AMD thread rolleyes.gif

I think you guys need to read what AMD actually said again, your working eachother up into a fervor over misinformation. AMD have no intention of paying for and producing or going into a partnership for a g sync like module!! They want the manufacturers of the monitors to implement it for everyone. AMD cards are already capable of doing g sync , it's the monitor that's the limiting factor. So IF it does happen, yes it will be FREE!! How can so much of this sort of stuff be posted with all you guys just egging each other on with no care for the facts?? Lol.

lol you keep posting that as if it means anything.

the only thing it proves is how upset you are that amd is falling on their face...again. And people are pointing it out. Go play with your 290 and enjoy the heat, its cold outside.

QFTT...

Also, I don't think AMD's current series of GPUs even supports DP 1.3, and I don't believe a simple driver update will bring DP 1.3 support to them. So there is the possibility that people who want to use FreeSync will actually have to buy the next AMD GPU series, which would support DP 1.3.

Not true....

The ONLY current specification that supports VBlank are laptops that use eDP, and not all laptops use eDP.

As of this writing, NOTHING in the desktop market supports FreeSync; this includes GPUs, displays, connections.

Didn't they just show that it can be done. And really, it's a matter of standards at this point from AMD's perspective, open standards. The vesa standard already supports what's needed, so all it takes now is for the requirements to be ratified dp1.3. And if that's a go, as a monitor producer... do you make gstring panels that are closed off or the open standard? One format

Realistically, yall have to buy a new panel (or hardware) anyways for gstring which is the same as if a new standard was accepted and new hardware is made fitting this new standard. The difference is whether you want to support a closed proprietary system that will possibly become an open standard later?

This is all really too early anyways because with mantle there will be much more control over the individual frames unlike with Dx. I'm not even sure its much of a concern with overkill rigs regardless.
