[CHW] Microsoft readies its future DirectX 12 graphics API

Thread Starter
Well I believe mantle is promising up to 200% performance increase in future titles. Maybe BF4 only offers 45% of improvement as it was not originally based on it, and it is patch implemented.
I have high expectations but at the same time I have hope after reading this: https://twitter.com/FudzillaNews/status/420706529956745216

Not only Mantle is probably going to be awesome for gamers, but it is evident that pushing forwards in development and technology only generates others to follow the trend. Win for all of us, I think.

The main article is in spanish, but worth reading: Source
Quote:
The graph API Microsoft DirectX 11.2 made its debut late last year with the Microsoft Windows 8.1 operating system and XBox console One Since his "recent" release, relatively think companies like AMD is still much for us to see his successor .

In recent weeks, Graph APIs and Mantle have much to talk about, promising significantly outperform DirectX (by up to 45% in Battlefield 4 and up to 200% in future games ), noting the many ways in which this API not has evolved since its inception (excessive demand for a single worker thread and rapid saturation at about 15000 concurrent requests drawing).

200% performance increase with mantle? keep dreaming
post #4 of 72
I'm pretty sure you'll have to upgrade to "Windows [insert number here]' to get access to DX12...It will piss off those already attached to Windows 8 unless their new OS far exceeds future expectations...

That's why I posted this in rumor section. BTW, the original post came from Fudzilla.

Well it is a bit extreme but I believe that in extremely CPU bound games it will change the game completely as it eliminates CPU bottlenecks, the major increase will be seen on slower PCs, probably.

Percentages alone do not say much. Theoretically speaking a DX9 title redone under mantle could see this kind of performance boost (200% I mean) but that doesn't mean there is no middle ground. BF4 is a proper field for comparison exactly because it is one of the 2-3 games that use DX11 to the fullest, so anything new brought in the table with mantle is valid in that sense.

Ya, 200% is absurd, but even expecting a flat 30% performance boost is unrealistic. What mantle does is remove any CPU bottleneck and optimize the engine for the GPU, which means if you're already GPU bound in DX, you may see 10% gains or so...

Anything "coming sooner than expected" is always a HUGE letdown, don't ask me how I know...... rolleyes.gif
