[Silverstone] Silverstone FT05 | CES 2014 - Page 8

I'm surprised to see so many people disappointed. This case is gorgeous imo, and far better looking than the awkwardly proportioned ft02. I'd love to do a water cooled build in one of these sometime... maybe I can convince my brother to increase his budget for the build in doing for him to account for full liquid cooling.

I say go for it, I probably wouldn't suggest some of the mods I performed on my case, but its not too hard to get a magicool rad in there without too much alterations, the things I did to mine would make most people cringe lachen.gif.
This new FT05 is quite nice in my opinion, I don't know what all the negative reaction is for, I even quite liked the look of the FT04, and considered it, but the extra 180mm of rad space sold me on the FT02.
I personally would love a slightly wider and longer FT02 with 10 PCI slots, and more space behind the mobo tray for cable routing, and a bit more space in the base of the case for thicker rads and AP182's, so no modifications are needed.

Nah. After figuring out that it would cost around $1,000 to get everything set up right, and the long-term implications of dealing with water, I'll stick with air (or an AIO solution) tongue.gif I'm really interested to see watercooled FT05s in the future, however. Put in the 180.2 XT45 rad with white tubing... drool.gif

EDIT: If I were to do custom water, then I'd use my PC-A70F. With modification, I could easily fit a monta 360 on the top, and a 60mm 280 in the front while keeping the HDD cage installed.

I don't think this is a unibody. The interior is also awful. Exterior looks alright though. It looks better than every SS chassis released since the FT02. But definitely not as good looking as the FT01 or FT02.

I really like the FT05. Love that 90 degree motherboard. But it looks like you can only fit a 360 30mm rad and 120 rad like the FT02. Wish it had more room for at least a 280 rad at top or at least a 240 rad

So much this...

Basically they cut the part of ft02 most people have no use for, made it more compact and not so ridiculously deep.

I do like this case, fits my needs (no 5.25" and few 3.5" + 2.5" hidden away), since I don't need them = less space and to me better looking :-)

What?
You with very little modding (take case apart) be able to fit a 2x180mm radiator down of the bottom of the FT02;
http://cdn.overclock.net/c/c1/c1b51fde_103ipnb.jpeg

Or (remove HDD cage also) a 3x 180mm could be fitted, which many people did, incl my self.
(should never have sold that case rolleyes.gif)

And see below:

Maybe at some point I will replace the AP181's with 182's, that will depend on how long my next gpu's are.

Also this could be a nice case to watercool in.
Seems that there is room at the bottom for a 2x180mm radiator (which for me is enough since the AP182 can push quite some air if needed thumb.gif). I'm hoping that is possible, cant really see if the fans goes a little in the back/motherboard plate = much more modding and cutting to get the radiator installed if so.

Maybe place pump/reservoir beside the PSU (if enough space) or at it's back, or some setup down upon the radiator.
And then mod a big window in the side (if a case option doesn't come with that).

I like it (if it comes in white and watercooling is somewhat straight forward thumb.gif)

Also, can anyone see where the filters for the 180mm fans are?
Doesn't seem the same way as the FT02. Perhaps they are underneath like may of us modded them to be with the FT02 with magnets biggrin.gif

The Unibody frame caused the FT02 to increase in price and be delayed, along with the FT04 which caused serious delays.
SS could be trying to hit a certain price point with this case, sub $200, to get more buyers. The FT02 will still be around if users need more storage, 5.25 bays and Unibody frame.

IMO, this is a perfect game box. Simple and straight forward.
I'll use it as a HTPC/NAS or LAN. That will add to my collection of the TJ11 and RV01.

Was just about to pull the trigger on a FT04 to replace my RV03, but now that I have seen this I think I might just hold on. Massive fan of the SS cases because I don't run water so I need the best air case available, and the seem to be it.
