Corsair Vengeance: Low Profile vs. "standard", what's different? - Page 3

  2. You really don't like big, flashy heat spreaders

If your only concerns are price/performance, go with the big heat spreader.

EDIT: Actually I feel I should second slamanna's post, if you're not planning to OC don't even worry about this and just go with whichever look/price you like better. The point of my post wasn't to dissuade you from LP, just to explain the reason it exists.

wait sense when is the hyper 212+ a big cooler headscratch.gif
maybe on an itx board ?
yes it will work with high profile ram

Well it's not huge, I guess I just meant non-stock.

Hyper 212+ does just barely encroach on my Ripjaws' fairly modest heat spreaders.

The only difference is the negative space.

Whether chips bin for higher speeds or not depends on the chips, not their heat spreaders.

So guys, I'd better go with the Ares/Vengeance Low Profile anyway, don't you think so? I may end up buying a thermalright macho, so i'd better be safe than sorry. Of course, the CPU cooler does nothing to cool the RAM sticks, right? It would be fantastic xD

I heard the fact that memory controllers are binned for their performance, but do you think that it's a better mem chip one that performs 1600c9 @1.5V or 2133c11 @1.6V? The first is the Vengeance LP, the second one is the g.skill Ares, which standard clock/speed though is the same, i.e. 1600c9 @1.5V, but costs 10€ more. Am I paying for a factory OC I could easily do on the Vengeance LP?

They're both "meh" kits, if you want fastish RAM you shouldn't get either and if you want low price RAM you should just get the cheapest of those

~2133c9 as a baseline if you don't wanna get advanced with kits, ic's etc.. if you do or just want a kit recommendation, go ask some dudes in one of the hardcore RAM threads, i hardly know anything

I see, but I thought that there was hardly a visible difference between 1600 and 2133 given the CAS latency.... Anyway, how do your samsung greens compare with the vengeance lp?

I'm @2200 9-10-12-20 with 104trfc and they perform pretty well for those clocks+primary timings, so good

You OC'd them? The samsung green are "naked" right? No cooler at all, so couldn't the vengeance potentially perform just as yours?
