Sensationalism over a generic emo teaser video.

Agreed. That looks awful. 0 gameplay. Terrible camera direction in the live-action part. Half life 2 looking textures in the rendered part. And the stereotypical damsel in distress in the end followed by mindless violence.

Sooo next gen.

Won't be checking out Kotaku links from now on.

Must be a problem on your end. Because I can see both of his link to the video just fine, it's looks very good.

The second video here is what appears to be an in engine fly through of the environment. Looks stunning, but honestly creating a single empty room that looks this good isn't really anything revolutionary, unless they can keep this level of detail and quality of lighting throughout an entire game.

I think this is a technique that a lot of developers should start looking into. Especially for top down/3rd person games. Most of the time you are dealing with relatively static background worlds to begin with, so why not give a simple 2D overlay, with 3D invisible walls, and then focus all the GPU rendering on moving objects? You can make some really good looking games that way when all you have to render are 3 models at a time.

Check out the windows in that video. They look WHACK!! Some of the smaller elements of the environment also seem to have trouble being accurately re-created.

Refer to my earlier post in this thread:

I don't know what all goes into it but all it's doing is scanning an environment. So there for all the lighting and shadowing is baked into the level. Now I'm sure they'll change this depending on the case but for the most part all I see is a 3D environment and a high-resolution texture. No dynamic lighting and shadowing, no post-processing, etc.

So there for, based on the above, it really wouldn't be that hard to have larger environments using this tech as long as the shadows and lighting STAYED static/baked in.

Yea... it always bugs me when new "next-gen" games teaser ZERO gameplay

It might as well just be a commercial for a new CG Rainbow Six movie--which I'd probably more inclined to pay attention to
a bunch of pretty Maya renders doesn't make a next-gen game

i feel somewhat alone in thinking this really doesnt look that impressive.
looks like they just super imposed some CGI over live action footage.

idk, i feel like we need to see more before this is a yes or no.
i mean, remember the "endless detail" or whatever group that popped up a couple years ago...yeah, too good to be true.
