Best option for game recording in my situation?

Ok, I have an ASUS G75vx with 8gb ram, 1 TB 5000 rpm hard drive, a GTX 670mx, and a quad core i7 2.7 GHz processor. I can run the game I want to record (bf4) on high with some settings at ultra at 40 fps. I currently use DXtory and when I record I need to set my graphics on low and record at 30 fps at 720p. What can make my recording better? Can I take advantage of my USB 3.0 and get a 2 TB 10,000 rpm hard drive and boost my write speed or would that not change anything? Could I get more ram or would that be useless? Is there anyway to dedicate a core to the game recording for better performance? Maybe anyone has a good codec for DXtory I could use? Any help would be great.

MY buddy records on a laptop, I'll see if he will give me the codec he uses for you

I know that people are able to get good results when they record on laptops, I'm just wondering what I'm doing wrong.
