quad 7970 lightnings

i have a chance to get a 4th 7970 lightning for fairly cheap. the 3 i have right now are watercooled but i dont think ill watercool this one right away. my question is can my antec tpq 1200w safely max out 4 7970 lightnings with a 4930k? i wont be overclocking them with this psu as i will wait till i get a 1600w lepa but stock volts is it safe?

i will be mining on them when not gaming, so i need it to be reliable at running 4 7970 lightnings at 100% for most of the day. thoughts? right now my wall reader says its putting out 960w.

load testing results from johnny guru

so if i say its 88% efficient (based on high loading from johnny's tests) im pulling about 844 watts throught the psu. which correct me if im wrong but arent the raitings for dc? not ac, so if its a 1200w psu its max output is 1200w dc but its intake can be (88% eff) can be ~1370w from the wall?

so with it using 844 of the 1200 available watts, i should be beyond fine for running a 4th card stock clocks. a lightning has a 6 and an 8 pin. so 75+150 watts correct? so an extra 225 ( max tdp) so that puts me at a theoretical 1094w through the psu.

does any of this make since? am i over thinking it? someone guide me lol

Look on jonnys chart, at 1203W DC load he was getting 1371W on the AC side. A 1200 should be fine for quad stock Lightnings. Mine draws 460 under load at 1400 mhz and 1.425v, chilled with 0*C water, so you would need more than a 1600 for all 4 cards pushed hard.

yea when i benched i was at 1300mhz 1.3v and hit like 1400w ac with my 3930k @5ghz 1.5v

i guess im just worried even though the math makes it safe haha

You're absolutely correct about everything! Well, your wording is wrong of, "it's putting out 960W", but that doesn't matter. I do have a question about that though: is this 960W reading while gaming, or while mining?

thats when my cpu is idle/browsing, and im mining on all 3 cards. i just checked with intel burn test while mining and got 1024w being fed to the psu. but thats not overclocked. im not too concerned with when im gaming because 1 card will be turned off and at 50% and my cpu doesnt really get taxed with dota or swtor.

So, the PSU is pulling 1024W from the wall while mining on all 3 cards and with IBT running. If your PSU really is 88% efficient while pulling 1024W from the wall outlet, then that means the computer is pulling 901W from the PSU. Wow. Yeah, don't overclock that CPU and you'll be golden.

I fried a TPQ1200 with quad MAX clocked and unlocked 6950s. That psu did not last very long. I'm curious why you have or will have quad lightnings running at stock clocks?

did you try to under volt the card? For mining you can reach optimal core/mem clock with even 1.1 vcore
