Question about MSI COMBUSTOR - Page 2

Your setting will only work if your cooling is capable of keeping that temp target. Which means if you let your cards fans reach 100%, and the load is to much, they will continue to heat over your target number. Really you won't know how far Kombustor or anything else will take your cards until you try it.

Also Kombustor and other benchmark/stress test software usually will heat your card hotter than even the toughest games. Usually you won't have to worry about your temperature readings on those stress testing programs unless you are doing similarly stressful processes with your system, like mining, or folding@home or another process that uses 100% of your capacity.

But with default temp target 79C its impossible to rais temps to 85 or higher in furmark, right?

Nope, temp target just means, that is the temperature maximum that you want your card to reach. If your card cannot cool itself enough, it will go past that target.

In other words, temp target means next to nothing smile.gif

I was thinking that will throttle clocks but no past temp target?

Maybe i simple ask ok?

Can i reach higher temps like 85 or 90C+ in furmark, even if i had 79C temp target setting?

Usually a card won't throttle until it is overheating, which for most is in the 90C+ range. Throttling will keep the card from burning up or being damaged (at least that is the intent).

Temp target is just an arbitrary number that you will make up, that you would like your card to be at or below.

YOu are not true.

Here is somebody who talk about that:"What is your temperature target set to? If you left at default this is likely the reason why. The card is trying to maintain 80C and will throttle the clocks and/or voltage in order to do so. Try increasing it along with the power target as well."

That is possible, depends which cards you look at. I wouldn't expect throttling to be that low, but maybe your brand has set it like that. For a reference Nvidia GTX 770 maximum GPU temp is 98C, so I could expect throttling around 90C maybe even as low as 85C.

Edit: Seems like 770 series has a 80C throttle limit, that seems low to me, but if that is the spec then so be it.

If you want to keep it under 80C, then I would setup a custom fan profile in MSI afterburner to keep the fan high enough and the card cool enough. If your fans at 100% can't keep the card as cool as you need then you would have to upgrade the cooler, but those MSI heatsinks are usually very good, so it shouldn't have a problem unless you are sensitive to the sound or in a very hot place.

On MSI Afterburner i had 79C default temp target. But why sometimes i can reach 81C on some games? Usually its 79-80C, but max 81C. But why i am reaching 81C max while i had 79C temp target? Hmm?

Perhaps your card downclocks past 80C, not past 79. Is 1C that big of a deal?
