Do you suffer from the BF4 memory leak issue? - Page 8

I played for a while and didn't encounter the memory leaks I had before. I think my video card was running out of memory twice causing crashes but at least the system didn't slow down and respond every 1 minute like it did with the memory leak.

I don't get why we have to use a page file these days though, wasn't that used when we had like 512MB of system memory? I usually set a limit of 1.5GB-2GB on mine.

Some applications / older games demand you have a page file enabled otherwise they just refuse to start.

I got mine set to 1024MB fixed. BF4 has no issues on my 290X when running DirectX 11. I'm going to run a few rounds while on Mantle when I get home this afternoon though.

In my case, and few others it fixed the memory leak. Usually i use 1GB, but now its system because i can't play BF4 otherwise.

So I got this error yesterday and just a few minutes ago a very similar one where I couldn't go back to a usable Windows at all. I had to force reboot my PC after the Start screen crashed. Is this the video card running out of memory?

I discover this thread a little late, as I have this memory leak issue since BF4 launch.

The thing is that I already had this issue with BF3, then it's gone with some patch (not sure if it was BF3 or AMD)...and it came back with BF4.

Reading this reddit post, gave me an idea why: http://www.reddit.com/r/battlefield_4/comments/1r7hd6/windows_8_bf4_memory_leak_the_cause_and_the_fix/cdnfqpa

It seems that the leak has been solved by AMD 13.1 driver...and came back with 13.11 beta 9.2.

It also seems that only HD5XXX/6XXX series are impacted.

My setup is very similar to other impacted people :
  • Windows 8.1 x64 (upgraded from W7->W8->W8.1)
  • Core i5 3570K (no OC)
  • Asus P8Z77-V PRO
  • 8GB DDR3 2133MHz CAS9
  • Sapphire Radeon HD6950 (no mod, no OC)
  • Corsair ForceGT 120GB (I've got a 2TB HDD but BF4 is on the SSD, which is also my system drive)

Playing BF4 in 32 bit + Windows 7 compatibility makes memory leak happen less often. In x64, I can't play more than 10 minutes...

Being an IT engineer, I can follow some advanced troubleshooting steps.

I am to the point of realizing that EA is not putting enough pressure on DICE and DICE isn't taking responsibility of putting pressure on graphics companies and Microsoft to work together to get these issues fixed. I will not be buying bf5 or any other DICE games EA games sure but if DICE touched it I won't waste my money.

It's just to bad that such a fun game has to be ruined due to PC variable issues that should be able to be fixed with the billions invested in software/hardware what is your god damn excuses. Hire new programmers, hackers, and out of the box thinkers to get it done, probably could make games faster and smoother if it was open sourced but we seem to think competition and closed doors brings better business no it slows production down.

Thats quite true.

Have you contacted the OP so see if you can help ? I'am about to.

Nice to see the leak isn't there in the 13.1 ! I happend to have just downloaded those instinctively, LOL ! make my day. gonna install ASAP.

The problem I had though is that even after restarting my PC the memory leak was still here.. pretty annoying ! I might have to shut down the power for a bit or something :S.

Well I'm still willing to help though.

In case it havent been posted (I don't really have the time or motivation to go through all this thread sorry), I'll do a quick recap ... this leak have been traced through poolmon.exe to the MINI driver here I took a screenshot :

Also here http://www.reddit.com/r/battlefield_4/comments/1xftur/npp_memory_leak/

Some guy coded a small script to just shut down BF4.exe once the memory starts leaking too much (which definately proves it comes from BF4), this is working, I just forgot to run it while playing earler.. uhh, or well, BF4/AMD driver related mostly.

I'm off to roll back those drivers.. peace to everyone and thanks for providing the fix, and I strongly hope it works lol.

EDIT: FFS, I tryed to rollback to 13.1 only to see the game isn't working, the map loads and everything but I can't click anything on the screen, seriously... does it work with you ?? .. damn wasted so much time for nothing.. I can only hope that AMD is still working on it because we can't rely on this temporary fix.. mad.gif

Yeah, that helped. Better now that they fixed some issues as I managed to get a corrupt page file back near release. Switched to an Nvidia card now so I guess the OP issue won't affect me as much.

exactly what i get - and if i leave the pc on even after shutting bf4.exe down the windows 8.1 will crash after about 30min and restart then ask me to send an error report, im thinking this problem is a mix of amd and windows. occasionally in the past ive had different error codes or just total crashes but recently its been this message and windows asking me to close programs to save memory.

just checked my pm's on this site and saw an amd engineer had contacted me and some others to help them, unfortunately it was over a month ago..... oops - hope they did get the help off others.

its weird because some days i can play a good 3-4 hrs none stop with no problem on different maps and game modes, then other days its crashing after every 2 or 3 rounds.

during the time of this happening ive upgraded from i5 2500k to an i7 4770k and moved to a new msi motherboard gd65-gaming - and im going to go all in and get the 290x lightning to use mantle.
the angry person in me would make me say this is amd getting us 5000 and 6000 users to update our gpu. but i think its windows 8 and 8.1 that is the problem, some conflict to do with gpu memory, pagefile and ram.

who knows....
