Need help OCing this 2500k

Thread Starter
I set the manual voltage to 1.35v for 4.5 and it instantly bsod (x124) after starting prime95, failed prime95 from 1.36v-1.425v. At 1.43v, it would be in prime for 5-6 hours till it bsod x124. It's currently at 1.435v with no errors so I upped the multi to 46 and still no bsod for 6 hours. Would fail if the multiplier is at 47 though at the same voltage. I'm the 3rd user of this chip, it's probably degraded to hell or just a bad chip in general.

Motherboard: Asus z77 pro
CPU cooler: h80 with 2 ap-15
Memory: Corsair Vengeance Pro 16 gb 2x8 @ stock 1333

LLC - ultra high

Yeah, that definitely sounds like either a heavily-degraded 2500K or just a very bad overclocker. Is this the way it was for the previous owners?

What is the voltage according to CPU-Z while Prime95 is running?

(so, don't go by what you have set in the BIOS because that's not the actual voltage that's powering the CPU)

Yep, because the actual core voltage itself isn't high enough. This specific 2500K sucks at overclocking. :(

That must be why you're the 3rd owner. hehe I most certainly wouldn't have kept such a bad overclocker. Hell, I probably would have sold it as a 2500 and said "don't even bother trying to overclock it". I bet that it's great at stock! :)

Speaking of which, I recommend putting it back to stock because it's not worth degrading it further with voltages that high. It's not safe for 24/7 use.
