New To Water Cooling With $500 To Spend: Help Me OCN! - Page 2

The point is, if you aren't going to contribute anything useful, don't contribute at all. Telling him to go out and learn is pointless. By being on the forum, he IS learning. It's standard forum etiquette. It's not like he's asking what is water cooling?

He already clearly stated his question.

And yes, that's plenty of rad. There was a thread here with all the heat dissipation of rads in one nice excel sheet a couple days back. Very nice reference to look at.

Uhhh... pretty sure by asking questions and getting helpful responses, unlike yours, is "learning how to fish." No sense in being demeaning to someone who is only trying to learn. Haven't you ever heard "if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all"

OP, yes that is more than enough radiator space to cool your components. You'd probably even have enough to add a second GPU if you ever decided to. I'm not really familiar with the EK pumps at all so I can't really help you there, but everything else in that kit is good quality.

One thing I don't see in your cart or mentioned in previous posts is fans. Do you already have fans that you were planning on using or do you need to get some? If you need fans, I highly recommend Scythe Gentle Typhoons. They have the best noise to performance ratio, but are somewhat expensive. And really good cheap option is Yate Loon. They are louder than Gentle Typhoons and are a little lower in terms of performance, but still very good fans for the low price.

IMO, the OP did his homework. I never respond to those "I want to watercool, what do I do?" posts. If they can't be bothered to learn the basics before they show up asking for help, then IMO they're too stupid to build watercooling anyway. OP here knew what he was talking about, he knew the basics, had selected some components, and came to us looking for feedback and help. We were all there once, and that's what this forum is for.

Exactly. These type of posts show up all the time. "Picked out parts for my watercooling loop. Double check before I order." Heck, I made one before I built my first loop. I always happy to help if someone shows they have a decent understanding of what they are doing. Like chris said, if someone just wants to be told what to do then I don't feel comfortable giving them advise. And OP has shown that he has done at least a little research on what he needs and how to do it

Wow! This thread really exploded while I was out! Thanks for all the feedback (and some trolling) everyone! I've also been thinking and doing a lot and revising and I've decided that I might as well just spend the extra $100 and get everything I need to fill my case with rads, that way if I end up with another R9 290 down the road, I won't have to worry about whether I have enough rad space or not! Here is what the final list looks like:

Honestly, the only thing I'm worried about is where I will mount the res/pump combo in my case, but I think that I have a couple places in mind! thumb.gif

Everything looks fine but you are missing components to drain and fill your system. You would need another 3 or 2 more fittings and draining valve. Good luck with the build

People hate when I do this.
Personally, I could care less smile.gif I try to save money for fellow members of the forum.

Check out the list in my signature, there is a NICE list of online sellers which can and will most likely offer cheaper prices than Frozencpu.
I am not sure where you are located but performance-pc's is the one I always seem to find the deals on.

Shoot me a message and I'll give you coupon codes for both. The extra 30-100$ you might save can be used for some additions to your loop.

GL with the build thumb.gif
