Optional AMD Build (critique?) - Page 9

Hmm okay.

Case: Little too much bling for me but hey its personal taste right?
Mobo:I had that exact same motherboard and it took me pretty far on my X2 3800+ Only reason I ditched it was cuz i wanted Crossfire.
CPU:Good choice for single core. You should get a decent OC out of that
G.Skill: Grab these for 10 bucks more. Link I was reading up on DDR400 RAM since I wanted some myself and those things can actually do like DDR515 if tuned right.
PSU: Great starting PSU. Many people have had some success with that one.
Thermal Compound: AS5 FTW!
Fan: I like this Vantec personally since its high CFM and it can be adjusted. Link

All in all, great S939 build! What are you gonna get in terms of cooling?

ok first: im only getting about $500-$600 for my tax return

case and power supply are taken care of i have a brand new aspire X-QPack

cpu: 3700+ link
i plan on running this at 2.85-3ghz depending on what the ram gives me 75.99

mobo: DFI RS842 Infinity link
69.99

ram: OCZ 1gb Plat. EL link
103.99

harddrive: WD Raptor 36gb link
104.99

Video: HIS 1650XT W/passive heatpipes link
149.99

DVD: maddog 16x DVD burner link
25.99

total: 589.43 shipped

if i get less than 600 then i can just go with a set of 80gigs in raid

by the way i had a evga 6800gs i took it to 520mhz core and 1.2ghz mem
i could have gone higher but it gets hot better cooler is a bust for overclocking that

Cooling... stock until I get some more money to buy another cooler. I'm hopeing that it won't take me long to find some money to buy a new cooler.

I'm at school right now so I can't really do much. 3rd Block rocks Computer software Maint.

BTW: redhat, I think you might have the wrong thread... IDC you can take mine over I'm just about done now

TIM: Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound - OEM

Fan: MASSCOOL BLD-08025S1M 80mm Blue LED Case Fan - Retail

That might help you get some more comments.

Now, for mine.

Case: Case is going to be your own choice, however I would steer you away from that case. According to the Specs on Egg its only got one fan slot, and thats for an 80mm fan. Look for a case with at least 2 fan slots which are 120mm, and go for a case which you won't get tidy of the looks of - i.e. simple and sleek.

MoBo: Nothing wrong with that mobo, compatible with your CPU. However, consider an SLI board as nForce 4 Ultra is a bit pointless - go for nForce 4 SLI or nForce 4

CPU: Nice CPU, should do you well and should overclock nicely

RAM: That RAM probably won't overclock, so your going to have to put it on a divider if you want to overclock. I would also consider getting 2x512MB sticks if your not going to upgrade to 2GB in the relative near future (e..g year at the most)

PSU: Amps are fine, as is wattage, but consider going for a better PSU such as one made by OCZ or a big name company That one is OEM too

TIM: Nothing wrong with AS5

Alright, I revised the case last night, and decided to go with the Raidmax ARES.

The RAM, I probably plan to go 2 GB in the near future, and will go with beret on his suggestion. Might look into something else.

Don't plan to go SLI in the future... is that still a good board for it?

Also, isn't OEM fine, or what is wrong with it? Thought that it wouldn't matter if its OEM.

Thanks for help,
Tyr13

That case looks OK, I would say the inside looks a bit cheap, have you considered one of Coolermaster's cases?

That mobo can't do SLI.

OEM just means that you don't get anything with it, not even a box - I prefer to pay extra for retail, makes life easier

What kind of coolermaster cases?

And I don't need to go SLI, so I'll probably stick with that board.

Newegg only sells OEM HIPRO psus... guessing I'll just stick with that.
