Will my ram cause problems for overclocking (3820)?

When i got my PC, the RAM i got (Corsair or other brand) came with no heatsinks. It's already at1600mhz, but if i put it up at 1666mhz, will it cause problems? Do i invest in better ones?

you can buy heatsinks separately for cheap, or even make them if you're in a pinch. As for problems without knowledge of your exact system there is no way to know. The rig builder button on the upper righht corner of the page may help. it will put your machine in your signature.

hello,

I bought EVERCOOL EC-MC-BL Aluminum Heatsinks and slapped them on my ram.
They sell them at newegg for $3.99

However , if you don't mind waiting a bit, I bought mine at ebay for less then $1.50 a piece. I needed two biggrin.gif I did it for style rather then worrying about heat messing them up thow, , ..I'm only at 1633 I think, but never noticed any heat or ram problems.

Higher RAM speed is generally more stressful on the CPU overclock, but I doubt that a bump from DDR3-1600 to -1666 will bring any difference.
Whether your RAM can run stable at DDR3-1666 is another question, different models based on different chips will overclock differently.

RAM doesn't really get all that hot...the heatsinks are more for show than anything real. You'll be fine unless you over-volt them.

Thanks for your replies! i think, after i go through with that overclock again, i'll run an extensive memtest. That should tell me something.
