If you find (or have found) a mouse that you really, really, really, really like, then...

Stock up. Seriously. If you find a mouse that you just absolutely love and you think that you would NEVER be able to like any other mice now that you've experienced this one, then buy a couple more. Stock up. That way, if your mouse gets discontinued, then you won't be screwed when you need to replace it due to it wearing out or dying or something.

I finally had that happen to me today with my Intellimouse Optical. I own 5 extras because I love this mouse that much. 4 of those extras are brand new, and one of them is the very first one that I ever bought. I only replaced it because it's more of a beige color (it's the first model that Microsoft made, back in the days when that color was more common), and so it's kind of ugly, but it's still in a beautifully-perfect like-new condition. Anyway, so the newer and whiter (lol) Intellimouse Optical that I've been using for the past several years finally started having problems due to physically wearing out and it was giving me irritating problems. So, I grabbed one of my new ones and I was back in business. No waiting, no scouring the internet for a new one. Just swap it and go. Now, you might notice that it's quite easy to find Intellimouse Optical mice today, but it was nearly impossible just a year or two ago. The reason I looked is, I want to look into getting a few more. lol

I have something else to say: holy crap, I have a brand new mouse and it feels great! I had no idea how worn out the other one was getting. lol

Anyway, yeah: there's no way in hell that I'll ever use any other mouse or get to like any other mouse. When this one goes (if it ever does), then I still have 3 more. This mouse should last significantly longer though because the one that I just replaced took massive amounts of gaming abuse from rapid clicking, harder-than-necessary button pressing (and holding), rage-slamming it like a belly flop, and tossing it around. lol It was my punching bag.

So yeah, I'm very happy that I stocked up and I recommend that you do too if you've found that perfect mouse. Actually, I suppose that this can apply to almost anything that doesn't cost a lot - unless, of course, your mouse cost a lot. Mine is only ~$20 these days, but it used to retail for $50. lol

I know, you want to tell me how great your mouse is. hehe Well, believe me, I've looked at every mouse that you all use, and I don't like any of them as much as I like the Intellimouse Optical. I wish I had the money and the physical space to stock up on like 50 of them. I love this mouse!

Meh, there will always be ones for sale on eBay as well as parts to repair them. My MX700, which is far more rare than any other Logitech mouse, is still around for sale. I bought my friend one a few months ago.

Why do I like it so much? Battery charger. Uses standard AA batteries and the base is a charger. Everything that uses AA batteries in my house gets charged through my mouse. I always a fresh set of AA's handy because of this mouse.

Funny enough I do the same thing. I also do the same thing with my daughters stuffed animals... If she ever looses one (hope it never happens) the spare animal will be waiting at home for her smile.gif

A boy and his mouse, charming story really. I could see that as the next hollywood blockbuster.
But seriously, I understand where you are coming from. All the stories that I read in the forums about mouse short comings and triumphs, there really isn't anything more personal in gaming than the mouse.

She'll know the difference. What you need to do is cycle through them so they're all in the same state of wear at all times. Now when one goes missing, it will go completely unnoticed.

Now that's nice. I'd love that too, but we don't go through batteries very quickly. They usually get old before we use them up. lol

I don't want to change your ways, but I wouldn't trust that there will always be my mouse on eBay as well as parts. One problem I'd have is, ending up being forced to buy a new one. Right now, there are a bunch of new ones, but Microsoft is no longer making this mouse, so when they're gone, they're gone. When it comes to mice, I'd rather buy a new one.

Aw man. That's sweet and it warmed my heart (lol now I sound like a fruit, but hey I'm a softy at heart). You have a good idea there. You're an awesome parent! I would have said "father" or "mother", but I didn't want to assume your gender based on nothing at all. lol

I think I'll pass this along to my brothers and their wives just in case they can think of anything where, if it broke or got lost or something, then they'd have another one waiting in the closet or something.

I had kind of the same thing with the Wheel Mouse Optical. After it got discontinued, I bought a bunch of them just to make sure I will always have a back up wmo.

However, since then I have moved on to the Zowie FK. While the WMO is still a great mouse, I for the first time, found a more modern mouse that had a shape that instantly felt right for me, even if it is quite different from the wmo in its dimensions. While I do not prefer it to the wmo (after spending a lot of time with it, it is almost on par in terms of comfort for me) I do think it is the better mouse moving forward. Unlike the WMO I never hit the max perfect tracking speed, and as we start moving on to gaming on larger resolutions, there will come a time when its 400dpi might not cut it anymore.

I now still have a couple of brand new WMO in a drawer somewhere. But it was not a waste of money. They are still a great all-purpose mouse that I can use wherever, and they were not that expensive anyway.

Generally, I would only consider stocking up when you find out it is discontinued, or when you soon expect it will be soon.
