Need help getting to network drive Win 8

I have the ip address of my phone and the login credentials. My phone is the lg g2 and it has a wireless storage feature. it gives me the ip \\192.168.x.xxx and \\G2 supposedly I should be able to access this from IE or File Explorer. I found other people who are getting it to work they have to type \\192.168.x.xxx\G2 then login using the given credentials.

I cannot for the life of me get to connect to this from my computer.

WIndows 8 Pro

When I click on the network folder should I automatically see everything there. Like my DVR and router (I saw it there once but never again)? I only see my computer there.

Error is 0x80004005 unspecified error. Was getting error of specified path not found when I was trying to map the drive which didn't work either.

I went in to Command Prompt pinged the ip and 100% failed.

first line said sending 32bytes of data to 192.168.x.xxx next 2 lines where the ip was it said 191.168.x.xxY yes last number was different then 4th line where it said that it failed it had correct ip.

I have sharing on.

I have reinstalled my wifi adapter.

Let me start by stating I have no experience with this.

First off, most phones kill WIFI when they go to sleep. It goes into a schedule usage (not always on type thing.)

So you would need have the phone in never sleep mode.

Secondly, not all IPs are pingable, it isn't as common as you would think to be able to ping any IP address.

So that doesn't rule much out, but your computer can't see it. That is for sure.

Your phone, probably has settings that need to be configured to allow this File Sharing to occur.

On Windows 8, you have two options, mount by command prompt or mount by File Explorer (GUI method.) Just note, that in Windows 8, due to UAC and security, you should only mount a share drive with an elevated to administrator command prompt. It will be invisible for the most part except admin command prompt. Its annoying I know. It also sometimes doesn't want to dismount either, with no record of it being connected. That is fun.

Anywho, you will have to be able to "see" the phone before you can mount, either through File Browsers or through Network Devices.

If you can't, you won't get to mount anything.

Also disable Windows 8 Firewall while doing this. Completely. This can be the root issue. Once you can see your phone give this a try.

Elevated Command Prompt:
try: net use Z: \\PHONEIP\FOLDER
or try: net use Z: \\PHONEIP\FOLDER PASSWORD /user:LOGINNAME

You can then copy to and from using Copy / XCOPY / ROBOCOPY features.

Some info here: http://forums.androidcentral.com/lg-g2/317028-wireless-storage-lg-g2-print.html

When I turned off the firewall and virus protection I could see my router under network so that part is solved but getting to connect to the phone is not as easy as others.

I tried your elevated cmd prompts but error 53 has occurred everytime I try it. Network path not found

Also the phone is all set once I hit the wireless storage button theres nothing to set or change or anything I can do to the one screen that shows when I hit wireless storage.

Ok I think I got it working alright. I went into the services and unfortunately I turned on two services so I am uncertain which one if not both actually helped. One was named Network Connections and the other was Link Layer Topology Discovery Mapper.

Once I saw that it was gonna work I mapped the drive. So it shows up under My Computer Now even if its not connected, nice and easy transfers from phone/computer.

It still doesn't show up under network either, under My computer it says Network Location though.
