Vista - how well would this run

Thread Starter
Hey, im hearing a lot of rumors about this vista stuff. One guy jsut told me today to get 4 gigs of ram to run vista premium well b/c 2 gigs will be the min. I'm a gamer, and i want to get the highest frames, i just ordered a computer. Specs are below. Lets say on a scale 0-10 (10 being the highest) i run counter-strike:source on windows xp at a 9. What would I run it if i had vista premium w/ all the features enabled?

Hey and welcome to oc.net. Well no Offence but your Friend is talking Poo Poo.

I run Vista at Current With 2 Gbs Of ram. Everything works just fine. The OS itself doesnt actually utilize much physical RAM at all allowing games to run even better.

The system you listed will Bbreez through Vista just fine.

It'll run happily I'd say a 9/10 also.

Gaming might be a bit less in performance than on XP though. I'd wait until DX10 is really a must, and only then get Vista (by then, I hope they've gone to some service packs also)

Enterprise: do all versions of Vista have the same requirements? I can imagine that the most heavily loaded/pimped out version demands a bit more than the others..

Well The only Difference is that the Os version contain different software abilities. They all have the same Requirements. Your system would only be forced to run harder if you where to open up the apps anyway but on install and boot up there is no difference between them.

IS there a Vista premium? I have only seen Business and ultimate.

And I have suffered horribly when trying to game on it. Probably drivers.. the Nvidia ones are a bit dated and for the RC1.. not the distro version

so far I am staying XP till at least an SP or two. I keep the Release version on another Drive and boot it every now and then to see stuff.. but I artifact horribly in games with it.
