Sound card or Receiver to power bookshelf speakers

Thread Starter
First of all, will a sound card work on bookshelf speakers(definitive Technology SM350)?

Secondly, which route should I go to power bookshelf speakers (definitive Technology SM350)? Through a sound card or a receiver?

you will need a amp of some kind to power those speakers

it be one of many different options

Small Class D or T-amp

receiver

preamp + amplifier

Integrated amplifier

and then of course you can also choose between new and used/ vintage as your budget as preferences allow.

Right now I'm listening to some NHT SuperZero's (with 10" sub) and a 30~ some year old Pioneer SX-3600 sounds amazing.

paid $80~ for the SX-3600 in just super cosmetic and operational condition

I see, REP+ I thought a sound card was kind of an amp itself. Good info and nice setup.

A sound card is a pre-amplifier, one two parts of the pre-amp/amp stages needed to drive a loudspeaker. It can drive a low amperage moderate voltage signal also known as line level, which needs to to be boosted by a power amplifier before it drive a pair of speakers.
