My old MX518 has serve me well. I plan to buy a new mouse in the near future but want one that does not have angle snapping / prediction. Any recommendations?

Price range: Under $50.

Thanks.

G400 Rev. 2. Zero angle snapping, 800 CPI native, 1000 Hz right out of the box.

Other possibilities depending on how your grip is:
Zowie FK/EC1/2 EVO (2300 CPI is the only usable lagless step, same sensor as the G400 with lower LOD)
G400s (slight lag from the SROM being different from the G400)
Kana v2 (I don't know that much about this mouse but apparently it has a high LOD, same SROM as the 3090 in the G400s with 4000 CPI IIRC)
DeathAdder 3G (if you can find one. the 3.5G had an unstable polling rate for me and the 2013 has some more noticeable input latency reported by many users here as well as some software issues, that's why it isn't included below this list either)

More modern optical 1:1 mice off the top of my head:
SteelSeries Rival
Mionix Avior 7000

I would buy the Rival. I have a Sensei now and I think I want to go back to a 1:1 optical. The 3310 sensor sounds magical.

I heard that the G400s is similar to MX 518 without the angle snapping.

It is basically the same but with a better sensor. The G400 Rev. 2, I forget how to find out if it is a Rev. 2 or not, also has no angle snapping but the sensor is more responsive since the max CPI is lower than 4000. The SROM with 4000 CPI available for the 3090 sensor has additional processing and you don't want that. Unfortunately, the G400s runs that higher latency SROM.

But would I be able to tell the difference in regular gaming? I am buying the mouse for gaming but I wouldn't say that I am a hardcore gamer.

Probably not. I'm a more competitive FPS player so my opinion will probably be more picky. G400s certainly is one of the best mice at its price point today.

CM Spawn? The only issue is that it's very FW dependent.

the spawn has a ton of prediction

if you like the ergonomics of the mx518, i'd get the g400s. Ignoring ergonomics, the only mice currently in production i might recommend over the g400s would be zowie mice because of their low max dpi, low smoothing sensor. But i think they're above $50 retail. And if you already know you really like the ergonomics of the mx518, then you'll really like the ergonomics of the g400s.
