Can some one that owns the Pedestal, please upload some pictures to see how the S8 top connects / lock / secures to the Pedestal at the bottom?

I'm guessing it'll be using the mount points reserved for the wheels.

I don't have an S8 ... but I have an S5 with pedestal. I asked that exact question to KC at Caselabs (see here for the Q and the A). In the case, there are 5 holes in a square pattern (5th in the middle). Solid feet use the middle hole. Wheeled feet use the holes in the corners. Connecting the pedestal to the case uses the middle hole.

Very interesting, Thank you!

Yes, I'm trying to figure out where I can route all the tubes and wires going up/down between the Pedestal and Main Unit, so knowing where the 2 pieces uses to connect, can give me some ideas where about I can setup the QDC plugs in case I ever need to split top and bottom for whatever reason.

I'm making the Pedestal portion optional, in case I ever need to take them apart for maintenance or whatever disaster might happen in the future, then I can still run the Top Unit without the bottom Pedestal.

@AllGamer ... I went through lots of those similar issues and posted about them in that thread I linked. Any build log that had similar issues / approaches was mentioned in my *thought* log. You might find it a very interesting read.

Indeed, found a bunch of interesting things already just from the front page

@Xclsyr mentioned about having the Pedestal On Top instead of the bottom, that's actually something I will play with to see how it works out for me, it's an interesting idea.

Actually if I can put the Pedestal on Top, and then Flip the whole S8 case upside down, and use it like that it'll work even better biggrin.gif

Yes, have the motherboard upside down, with the Video cards hanging from the "ceiling" which used to be the up right.

that will remove some of my concern about accidental water spill / leak when the motherboard is ON.

I run my rigs 24/7 most of the time, even when I'm not at home (remote desktop), so not having to worry the electronics getting short circuited it'll be one thing off my mind.

The other thing I found interesting is the stuff you found about the "lock in" for the panel connections to use it for the top / bottom case, that is exactly what I was trying to figure out, how to prevent the top and bottom from splitting apart in case I need to lift it up for cleaning or whatever.

And your observation of CLAMPED id on the spot, for me I find even the S8 is clamped.

Just yesterday I was sketching up where I would put everthing, and I realized, I won't be able to fit some stuff in as I have original planned, as it's already too clamped, that is including the use of a Pedestal.

I might just do as Xclsyr and get 2 S8 case and stacked them together instead of using a Pedestal, or perhaps expand to a 2nd pedestal tongue.gif

but no, that's what I didn't want originally, even the 1st Pedestal I already didn't really like much of the idea of having it, but I had to else I wouldn't have enough space for the big fat Rads I wanted to install.

Originally I planned to install 2 D5 pumps in the lower right side in front of the PSU, but now I might not be able to, I could put 1 D5 pump but not two as originally planned.

I might still be able to fit it, perhaps one horizontally and the other vertically.

or I was planning to maybe hang them upside down from the top Rads, or Front Rad

If I can manage to run the case Upside Down, then the Pumps will be right side up biggrin.gif

It'll be interesting to see the 2x 250 reservoirs suspended in the air biggrin.gif

Hmmm... an interesting concept.... So, since I have a couple extra S5 panels for if I ever split my case, a little investigation nerdsmiley.png

The first thought - since you'll need to dress the top up, are the top & bottom chassis exchangeable? Why yes, they are! All screwholes even line up perfectly! This would allow the top cover to still be used. Your choice of top cover and if you order the upper rad mount would depend on if you want to have intake/exhaust fans up top - if so the extended top is needed to prevent your fans interfering with the PSU. Moving down - what about the midchassis? A small portion of the rigidity it provides will be lost because you will not be able install any screws along the bottom. The outward-most holes on the midchassis would be over the radmount, not the frame, and there will be a gap there making drilling holes for those screws useless as-is, and that would be only then possible if the radmount's center rail lines up with the S8 midchassis - which it does not on the S5. However, screwing it into the front/rear panel and the 2 screws into the sides should be sufficient. You'll lose the ability to place the S8 hard drive cages here, unless you can hang the drive cages from the radmount, but this likely may need some modification; I doubt it will line up nicely across center of the case. More likely this space is better left to use for a rad.

What then, about HDD/SSD's? If you're not using too many than the stealth plate is your best option. Otherwise you'll need to get creative. Perhaps mounting S3/S5 drive cages to the sidewall of the midchassis? What about your designs on the flexbays - add a single or 4x cage there?

For the rest of the case, I can't think of any big issues. Overall you're just rotating the entire chassis except the top/bottom frames so everything else goes in like it's supposed to. The side covers would flip - standard windows on the lower edge instead of up top; The case front would have the flexbays left instead of right side; there's no reason this can't be mounted on top of the pedestal upside down. Only detail to see is if the pedestal front can be rotated to match the case - I don't see why it couldn't. The only other thing I could caution about is again your choice of top cover - just remember the PSU and all it's cableage will be front and center up there; even with the vented top all will be quite visible. Otherwise, I'm going to say very doable and also reversible on this supremely modular Caselabs chassis.

Thanks for the insight I'll keep that in mind.

SSD / HDD is not really an issue, I'll be using the new M.2 drives, which basically are bold-on to the motherboard.

Good call on the PSU / Fan thing needing the 36mm top cover, depending on the built, it might or might not be necessary.

Still, that is a good reminder for me to call Caselab and have them change my order to use the 36mm top instead of the regular size.

so, As I was saying if I do end up using the case upside down, I will probably also have the Pedestal on Top (I know earlier I said, I might put the Pedestal below with the case upside down), but since you mentioned about the fans and stuff, it might be easier to simply have the full case upside down with the pedestal on the top biggrin.gif

so the Top 2x 360 radiator, will simply become the bottom radiators, and will become intake to suck in cold air, and the hot air will go upwards,
which actually might be a good idea, since I've been figuring out the best way for air flow.

If the very bottom have the 2 upside down 360 rads sucking in cold air, the front fans and rear fans will move them away before it reaches the motherboard and video card components
not to mention the PSU becomes another good hot air exit exhaust as well, the PSU will be situated in the classical old style case location, where it has always been used as a hot air exhaust.

Any remaining hot air that does manage to escape the case fans + PSU, will be take cared of by the upper Rads (Upside down Pedestal)

oh yeah, i forgot there's also the bottom left 360, which will become the top right 360 when used upside down thumb.gif

... damn i'm so excited to try all this stuff now
originally I was really calm waiting for the new case to arrive.

Now I want to get my hands on it right away biggrin.gif

So to place the ped on top, then the case below upside-down - why? You comment about have the mb upside-down to prevent potential water damage, then place all the water in the rads etc above the mb? Having the ped at the bottom will allow you to have the mb above all possible water leak points unless you place an extra rad in the midchassis. Plus you can place the pump in the center of the ped without it being upstairs as well. Also, you'll have to run your lines up right through the flexbay area compromising what you could place there...

Sorry but if I just don't understand why go to such lengths just to undo it all by placing the ped up top wth.gif

Here's an idea that I never gave much extra thought to, but maybe an option for you ??

Using the pedestal as the mobo mounting area (ped on top of chassis).
which of course leaves the main chassis for everything else.
A lot of of extra issues are of course incurred with this variation, BUT could be interesting biggrin.gif
