Hey Pals,

Firstly sorry, my English isn’t the best, nor it is my native Language, so excuse me for misspells or strange grammar. I’m new here since I found this Forum pretty quickly as soon as i searched for the R9 2xx Series of AMD. Well since yesterday I’m a proud owner of the Power Color R9 290 OC, Hynix Mem., but sadly locked.

And now I’m looking for a Solution of the heat Problem of the R9 290 Ref's.

Things I encountered so far were interesting, but I want to see impressions and though about each Solution.
The prices are in Dollar and i picked the Cheapest I could find, without adding tax's / VAT / Shipping Costs.

Air Cooling's :

(Needs Fans to be bought extra):

Alpenföhn Peter 2 = $74,99 + Fans
Prolimatech mk-26 = $84,00 + Fans

So both reach around the $100+ mark.

(Ready out of the Box)

ARCTIC Accelero Xtreme III = $98.11
GELID ICY VISION REV. 2 = $50,68

AIO Water Cooling's :

(NXZT Solution is kind of tricky since the Mounting bracket supports some AIO-Systems, but I will take the NZXT Kraken’s as the Normal Case)

AIO Cooling:
NZXT Kraken X40 = $134,93
or
NZXT Kraken X60 = $ 191,04

Mounting Bracket:
NZXT Kraken G10 = $47,67

(Ready Out of the Box)

Arctic Accelero Hybrid = $133,03

Conclusion

To the Air Cooling’s:

The AA Xtreme III has some troubles with the VRAM1 Cooling.

The GELID ICY VISION should be fine, but here again VRAM’s heat sinks are reported to fall off sometimes, which kind of scares me to even think about that case.

The Prolima tech mk-26 is about the same as the peter but costs more.

To the AIO Water Cooling’s:

First of all, they are kind of expensive, compared to Air’s ones but they can be better in terms of cooling and in terms of noise.

The AA Hybrid is for my Taste not a good looking thing, the fans is so small, I really dislike that design, by putting such a little fan into such a great idea kind of wrecks it.

The NXZT is what seems to be the winner in the VGA AIO Water Cooling block, since the work of NXZT does not seems like less in quality as the AA Hybrid does. And the End-user can choose between different supported AIO’s, which makes this so interesting, but it doesn’t come cheap at all with its price tag.

My decision

I will go for the Peter 2 and two decent fans and it's easier for me to get, since most Solutions are kind of lacking but NOT BAD AT ALL.

That my opinion, as everyone has it’s own I’m fine with that.
And what is you opinion about this? – Post it below!

I added a Poll aswell, so you can Decide for you Opinion.

Regards
