Is this a cpu issue?

Thread Starter
I am trying out a dell studio xps 8100 with intel I7. I am getting a rather long message and am noticing the phrase TopWndCore. I am hoping this is not a big problem. Here it is.

...file\mcr_top_wnd.cpp:line1322:functionCMyTopwndcore:OnCommand:assertion'false'failed.

I tend to buy computers at a local pawn shop and they do have issues once in a while.

Any advice other than "Get yourself a real computer or build one."

Thanks.

As a pawnshop computer, it's hard drive is going to be a mess. i would suspect an OS problem first even if it lists as being a CPU issue.

Did by some miracle it come with it's original windows install disks? If not this may turn into a difficult problem. Are you perchance a fan of Linux?

As to the "get away from us with your nasty non-custom hardware" thing, IMHO they have nothing to complain about.

from what I can find pic wise that actually looks like an exceptionally unsucky dell. Dells are usually horrifically awful to repair or upgrade due to weird proprietary parts. The only real oddity is the sideways hard drive mounting, which IMHO is such a good idea I might actually try it.

this is likely a savable machine.

You've got a standard atx PSU, a standard matx board, and a case that is actually usable. If you do have to replace hardware on this it can actually be done. the i7 860 is a usable and overclockable processor, but not on that kinda meh h57 motherboard. It's replaceable though if you want to turn it into a gaming machine.
