Can the Guest Account turn itself on? (Windows 7)

My brother is having trouble with school and as an incentive to get him out of the house and not spend his nights online my parents have banned him from computer use. He's been very elusive with it, trying to sneak on when we haven't been looking, so my parents added a password to the family PC.

Now... somehow, the guest account was turned on. My parents didn't do it, I didn't do it, my little brother claims to not have done it, and the only other members of our family are a baby and 2 cats. He swears it wasn't him, and I'm not sure if it's possible or not for the thing to turn itself on, so I don't know if he should be punished or not. Does messing with the account settings sometimes cause the guest account to turn on? The only change we made to it in the past week was add a password, could that have done it?

I tested it on my own PC (turning my password on and off) and it didn't seem to make the guest account pop on or anything.

If he has access to a windows disc and knows how to edit the registry ( or has the least bit of Google-fu ), then you can turn on the main Admin / Guest accounts with no problem.

Outside of that, I doubt it would "just" turn itself on.

You mean, going through the BIOS or something like that? In the pre-log-in stages?

I don't think he has a Windows disc, but I'm not sure... He's pretty addicted to his computer usage (I mean let's be honest, who isn't in this day and age) and his desperation makes him very resourceful.

That's the admin account, but the same can be done for guest with more Google-fu. All the information is more than easily found with a short search.

My best guess though is he would of gotten to the computer without it being locked and enabled the guest account. Or someone allowed him on shortly and he enabled it.

Yep. Guess we're in it for the long-haul if he's started lying like that.

It makes me feel like such a hypocrite because I probably log 6 to 8 hours of computer time a day, it seems weird to help my parents keep my brother off cold-turkey. Of course I didn't drop out of high-school...
