i7 920 Help A Chump Overclock His CPU (Chapter I) - Page 7

Thread Starter

I'm back with the bios flash.

I opened up a new thread in order to start fresh and I'm hoping to see all of you there.

http://www.overclock.net/t/1458683/i7-920-help-a-chump-overclock-his-cpu-chapter-ii

Thank you so much for helping me by the way, you guys rock!  :guitar:

Edit: I can now manually set the clock multiplier to x21 with the new BIOS, regardless of Turbo.

I see that your aio cooler radiator is set as an exhaust. You can get slightly better temperatures if it were an intake instead (because air outside the case is usually cooler than air inside the case) Maybe you can move the radiator to the front where one of your intakes are and move that fan to the back. If you need that extra little bit of cooling. Make sure to keep the same fans tho. Because im sure the fans on the radiator have better static pressure and so should be kept on the radiator.

I didnt want to post this on the new post because I dont feel its worth it. This is just a suggestion that is not completely mandatory and may be useful if temperature becomes an issue on your journey to 4ghz

Thanks for being so thoughtful. I'm still wanting yours, as well as everybody in this thread's suggestions though, let's finish Chapter II with a happy ending shall we? happysmiley.gif

Also, I'm pretty satisfied with the highest temps I've seen during these attempts and doubt they'll ever rise higher.

Previously in this thread, I managed to reach 4Ghz and boot into Windows just long enough to test temps with LinX.

But if I manage to get a stable O/C I might just think about that.

When I bought that AIO Cooler, my first thoughts were exactly the same as yours. I wanted to put it in the front as an intaker ; the problem is, I don't actually have any slots on the High-Front position in this case. I had to forcefully screw a fan on the metal covers I've found, which are supposed to come off when you place a new DVD-RW ; it probably wouldn't carry the weight of the raidiator + two fans - albeit the one intake fan is holding quite firm coolsmiley02.gif

like what has been said start from scratch - if you get a good oc and its passed save it to the bios that way you can come back and fine tune it if necessary:thumb:
