Driver issue with x1950xtx 512mb Sapphire - Page 2

Thread Starter
Well jjk454ss I hope it works for you but it looks like you already have a very updated system already. Take the time to ensure all the drivers are updated and then you can be sure. Mine would always boot right up until xp's login window and then the video would fail. Now I don't get that after a simple driver update.

Sounds like your pc will not boot at all now? Try resetting your bios back to default if you can....

I was trying to do that, but now I get nothing. The fans all turn on, the hard drives sound like they are powering up. But I get no beeps and no video at all.

The 1900 series cards have 2 LED lights by the pci-e power plug, when booting if one or both stay on it is either a power supply problem or a faulty card depending which one is lit. I think some of the newer cards only have one LED light and I think that one is for a weak power supply.

I will check into this, thanks for the info.

Make sure your power supply supports dual 12v rails, and on top of that, your motherboard supports dual 12v rails, last system Ive seen that had a 1950 crashed constantly due to the fact that the motherboard only supported one 12v rail.

It shouldn't matter if the mobo and psu can support enough amps on the 12v rail.

The ATI drivers are bad with this card. There are lots of driver issues with it. They might work for some people but its really just luck if they work for you or not.

I couldn't boot to windows with mine. I couldn't boot into safe mode or anything. I had to boot from CD and reinstall windows to get into the computer. Then I installed the warcat drivers and had no trouble.

@jjk454ss: Looks like your problem is a lot like mine. Try what I just described.

Thanks for the info, I will give this a try. PS: Do the warcat drivers work with Vista, or do they have a Vista version?

I can boot fine to safe mode so I uninstall the drivers and the computer boots fine. I install the same 6.12 drivers with the exact same problem. I uninstall everything and try the 6.11 drivers. I have the same problem will not make it to xp log in screen.

I will go and clean all of ATI in the registry but I fear the same issue will occur. Anybody have this issue before? I don't really feel like formatting if it is just a driver install issue.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated......
Get the War Cat Drivers. I am finding they run extremely smooth--even on my highly strung C2D @ 4006 mhz--and they look great. Might fix the bug. You could also try the 7.1 that just came out (DL from AMD).

To give you an example of what I am talking about with the 6.14 that came on the CD I got some stutters in Canyon Run in 3DMark06 and could not get better than 8870. With a simple dirty install of the Warcats I am getting 9016 and no stutter at all.

Makes a huge difference.
