Multi 780 or 780ti

I'm looking for my next video card upgrade and I'm torn between the 780ti and the 780. Is the ti really worth the extra cash over the regular 780? I'm looking to play Metro and a few other games in surround gaming and looking at the 780ti compared to the 780 specially with some of the deals available on used models it feels like is be better off getting two used 780's and get water blocks than dropping the extra cash on the TI.

if you can, grab two water blocks and buy two used 780s, way better deal than buying two new 780tis+ blocks for just gaming.

I've heard that the 780 Ti can run in 4 way SLI, without a modded BIOS.
So for future upgrades, that might be good.

(Scaling is (i think))

% Performance increase from 1 card and up.

2 way: 80%
3 way: 60%
4 way: 30%

I mean... Give me a year, and i've saved up for a 4 way 780 Ti system (or 880 Ti) and an 4970x cpu with 64 gb of ram at 2400 mhz. and 3 way monitor.
price: 3000£

The problem with multi GPU beyond 2 GPUS is that most games are not designed to handle that hence the gains are marginal when throwing in a 3 or fourth card.

I just wonder if the real world performance of the TI is worth the extra $$$

I just answered this question myself. I ended up getting two Lightning 780's for $499 each brand new. Yes it equal more than a single Ti, but the performance between the two is unreal and probably more than I'll ever need at 1440p.

From all the times Pontiac spams this answer, this time I agree. If you already have 770s SLI wait for Maxwell

I upgraded the 770's to 780's through EVGA step up, I ended up selling that rig to a bud who made me an offer I couldn't refuse so I'm rebuilding.

if you have a Video card like a HD 7870 - 660 GTX or better there is no need to upgrade to a card that will be as pricey as the Pirate islands/maxwell equivalent when they are almost 7 months away and these cards can be good enough untill 2015(ending)
