Any body built there comp on a test bench or some weird abstract open configuration?

Is dust a huge issue? Idk some sort of open 3 tiered thing? Seem like it would be good for cooling and cool to look at.

Or like make a computer in a fish bowl or on a guitar and hang it on the wall idk? lol
post #2 of 19
Your the only risk to it. Such as dropping something into it or knocking it.
Dust isnt a issue since in the case it has fans blowing dust onto it.

The only limitations to custom casing like your talking about is your own imagination. I've seen submerged fish tank cases using oil, I've seen very amazing wall mounted hardware, a rig in a ball, tech benches, milk crate rigs.... The list goes on. tongue.gif

I wanted to do the fishtank thing but they are pretty expensive and then I wanted to do a Prodigy Hackintosh but I want 4 ram slots so that's out. The processor will have a cooler on it but will a 780 Ti keep cool running free air?

I think I might make it on a board and hang it on my wall, lol.

Here is mine, Its a cut up case mounted on the draw where the printer would sit on my desk.
Still a bit of a work in progress.

Dust really just depends on your environment. If your house is usually dusty, clearly there would be a corresponding amount in/around your PC no matter the casing.

In high school I had my PC built on my desk for a few months that didn't seem to have any issues other than needing a coat hanger to hold up the cords/cables as to not pull off the equipment onto the floor lol

And you can't take a whole fishtank anywhere haha

OMG OMG http://www.anandtech.com/show/7219/bitfenix-announces-the-prodigy-m-case-a-prodigy-for-matx I might be able to make one after all hehe

Thought about making a computer on one of these but they look kind of messy and not as cool https://www.google.com/search?q=lian+li+pc-t60&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=2_3RUu6oFLHfsATdrYHoBg&ved=0CAcQ_AUoAQ&biw=1306&bih=685

Lol someone beat me to the computer ina drum idea, guess that ones pretty popular http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/unique-atx-cases-compared,1561-13.html

Look at this! Only M-itx tho frown.gif http://www.maximumpc.com/article/news/lian_lis_new_test_bench_makes_our_spider_sense_tingle

I also liked the PC-Q30 and PC-TU100/200 but again only itx and I really want 4 ramslots and room for dual video cards, I'm not going to run more than 2 and I only need 2 HDD bays (1 HD and 1 SSD).

Actually the Prodigy M is old news by now. Maybe a CM N200 could tickle your fancy instead? tongue.gif

Are you referring to this?

I also had a bench setup for 1-2 weeks (before I got my case) and my heatsink got a lil' bit dusty

Doesn't Matx support 4 dimm slots? They have an Matx prodigy case as well, not just Mitx.

Unless of course a hackintosh means you can't use 4 dimm slots, then I will look like a fool for not knowing. lol

Disregard this I see you already found the case smile.gif

it is a HUGE issue, but it's also something you can work around. if you install an air filter on EVERY fan you use, then dust is less of an issue and all you have to do is clean the air filter whenever they get dirty and maybe dust off the rest of the rig once in awhile. the only issue you'd have to spend some time tackling would be installing an air filter for your GPU. it can be problematic.

the only other issue you will have is noise. since the case is "open" noise from your fans/HDD can easily leak out and be heard.

having an open bench is possible, but there is just more work involved in keeping it running nicely.
