I have never really understood the hate for Windows 8 on this forum. My belief after using Windows 8 since release (was too much of a skeptic for the preview) is that while for the consumer it can be really confusing as enthusiasts we actually get the really good end of the stick. You can use Windows 8.1 while ignoring the "apps" so easily, if you want to search (like you would do on the start menu) press the windows key and type what you want. If you want "computer" press the Windows explorer icon and press "computer". In the end once you ignore what everything looks like you actually operate in a very very similar way to Windows 7 but with the benefits of UEFI boot, better multi monitor features and many other slight upgrades. To be honest I have been using Windows 8 in a work/game 50/50 environment and after about a week or two of using it, I got used to it and since then I've actually been finding it faster as the search seems to be superior to Windows 7.

Ehhhhh... whatever though... Just my opinion I guess

So to enjoy Windows 8 all I have to do is ignore the user interface? Awesome!

But do I have to ignore all the issues with the 8.1 update?

Windows 8.1 have problems with the mouse. If you game a lot and you dont use games that have raw input selection then just use win8

I think most people here who have tried it actually really like it. My issue with it was incompatibilities. I re installed windows 8.1 about 8 times hoping it was a bad install that was causing issues, but i just had to many issues in the end, issues that reverting back to windows 7 resolved. Windows 7 has had so many microsoft updates and fixes that it is super well optimized by now, if they both were as stable as each other windows 8.1 would be a clear winner in my eyes. Windows 8.1, in the end caused me to much grief and i decided i would have to stick with windows 7 for the next couple of years, Now with windows 9 scheduled it seems like the same dilemma will present itself, go with a more stable windows 8.1 in a couple of years or try the less stable windows 9.. or just stick with good old trustworthy 7 even longer. I really do like what microsoft do but releasing OS's every couple of years makes no sense other than making money, they finally get something stable for the majority of users after a couple of years and then release something else that takes a couple of years to get stable, repeat process.

Who cares, M$ made the stupid decision to blanket all their devices with one interface. Even Apple keeps their laptop/desktop and mobile separate, why M$ thought this was a good idea is anyone's guess. I still have yet to see a laptop or desktop user at a library, coffee shop or airport "touch" their screens. M$ screwed up big with Windows 8 and they know it. I'm seeing PC makers offer Windows 7 again most notably Sony's VAIO laptops. There are a few models that come preinstalled with Windows 7. http://store.sony.com/vaio-pro-13-ultrabook-zid27-SVP1321HGXBI/cat-27-catid-All-13-Ultrabook-Pro

I don't know that you mean by Windows is turning into Mac. Maybe you mean Windows it trying to be ios or android tablet OS

Personally the changes with OSX seem more fit for desktop space while all the changed to windows lately doesn't make any since for a desktop. Only deal breaker for me and is extremely annoying with OSX is overclocking screens and pixel clocks.

But I get around Windows 7 the exact same way. Windows Key > Type out the program I want > Enter.

I don't see any point in learning some other useless stuff just to get around in Windows the exact same way. My SSD covers boot times so going from 10-12s boots to whatever it is with Windows 8...not really worth it.

And then there's like one game that really makes good use of Windows 8.1. I'm willing to bet that a free update (Mantle) would give me the same experience and it doesn't have to be that 45% they're hyping. It doesn't have to be anywhere close. But it really doesn't matter in the end, BF4 ended up sucking and I'm going to stick with BF3 for now.

And this thread just reaffirms my resistance to upgrade. Windows 8 is kind of like Vista...they're going to push their next OS ASAP so they can get away from the negative image. I know I came close to pulling the trigger 4-5x last year and I'm happy that I never went through with it. It's just pointless for someone like me- a waste of $50+
