I disagree. My 6870 is still damned good and see no reason to upgrade it. Saying that, I don't play games anymore so even this card is overkill for surfing and watching films so it's been racking up points in BOINC lately.

As far as GPUs yes. It is debatable on the rest of the hardware, CPU stress is decreased but don't know if an AMD GCN GPU is required first for everything else to get the benefit.

Well, it's supposed to be an update for low end laptops/desktops.. to limit it to GCN is kinda.. bizzare ? APU's + HD 7000 and more ? thank you AMD

Well, Mantle is supposed to get advantage by utilizing hardware more fully that universal DirectX / OpenGL API can. And CGN is completely different architecture compared to previous generation - so It makes sense to limit mantle to current hardware (i.e. 7000+ series).
