Description: Until today Linux had the reputation to be a system which is difficult to install. Without knowledge of Unix an installation was often condemned to fail. A lot of configurations require the usage of a text editor - in our opinion this is intolerable for the common user. Other distributions have finally produced useful scripts and programs which make the installation easier, but generally without a graphically user interface. We are taking another approach: initially, as with other operating systems, a VGA X Server is started and the complete installation is run GUI based, i.e. graphically. Only in rare exceptions will you need a text based console. We offer three different installation modes.

Ubuntu Edgy with KDE so it's more Windows-esque. (Easier to get used to)

Otherwise I would just stick with Edgy.

LOL, I think everyone knows what I'll say.

FreeBSD

You'll find it a bit harder than Ubuntu if you don't know to much about Linux/Unix. But its faster and very customizable, and IMO is what Linux should have been. It pretty secure too. Both have a large number of applications.

Ubuntu is Linux.
FreeBSD is BSD Unix.
Just to throw that out there.
If you don't mind spending the little extra time with it, then defiantly try FreeBSD. FreeBSD is very well documented. Man pages are more complete than in Linux. Ubuntu has a good forum site too.

The Port system is just sweet.

my uncle is a HUGE linux/unix fan...and after all his years, he uses FreeBSB on about 3 of his personal boxes...(of about 20 or 30+ that are in his home)

So, I must be missing out on SOMETHING....

But, Ubuntu or Fedora Core 6 would be a good idea if you're all about the free....They're really easy.
