Spending storage on small SSDs

So,I was contemplating maybe getting an SSD but since my budget is around Rs.5000 for anything additional,I can only get a 64GB one.My question is,what all should I install on it?I'll be getting many games but any particular type of games in particular? And what applications?

Gaming on an SSD would only reduce load screens, so anything with large load times and large diskspace, such as Mass effect 3. Applications and programs would benifit better from the read and write speeds, such as Photoshop.

tbh and i probly get flamed for this but IMO the OS the the least worthy of installing to an SSD. who cares about OS loading time, you only boot it up once... i rather speed up programs and things that demand IOPS and random seek.

but yeh depending on what platform you have i'd rather use it as a cache drive, it would dynamically cache what you frequently use onto the SSD and give you performance boost that way for your entire hard drive

Interesting answers. So older games won't probably benefit?I have an anchient system now and Age of Empires 2:The Forgotten Empires(modded as unofficial expansion of 1999 game) loads in very acceptable time.Similarly,I'm planning to buy Splinter Cell:Ultimate Edition. So should I stave of from loading older games on the SSD?BTW,will GIMP be improved with an SSD(no money for PS Elements!)?

I forgot to mention your OS, yes, installing your OS would make your PC noticeably faster. Install your games on that SSD, if you play them as much as i did with bf3, (430 hours and going) then You would might as well enjoy some e-peen. =) GIMP load times will also improve.

honestly for a 64GB ssd , there isnt much you can fit on it so you have to be selective.

if you are going to put the OS on it, you would be left around 20-30GB left after installation and need to give windows some breathing space too. if you put games on it then you can have a few selected games considering 15GB installs

best thing you can do with a 64GB is to use it as cache if you own an intel platform that supports it

I'm on AMD platform and will be using Windows 7:Home Premium,64-bit which I will install if I buy one.By my understanding, many older games won't have transfer speeds as fast as the SSD enables.Si I'll only be installing the latest ones and those which I play most often.
Thanks for the replies,GIMP will probably be firest to download!smile.gif
How much space should I leave as headroom for Win?Should I install only 15GB?

windows7 takes up 3.4 or 3.7 gb, so 4 or 4.5gb if you so choose.

How?If its 64-bit,it takes up more space? If that's the case, after giving headroom of 5-4GB,I'll have around 50GB of SSD goodness.
