you underestimate VRAM usage without AA, it's not that much really. 4k on a 24 inch screen does a lot to make AA redundant for me.

Max settings on Crysis 3 with no AA at 4k only went up to 2700 MB. 4GB vram can be enough here.

My concern this time is whether 6GB of Vram will be standard next time around or it's still marked-up prices. Yes I like the 6gb VRAM, but the lack of need for AA for me at 4K made me reconsider how much VRAM we really need at 4K no AA.

I'll still get 6gb Vram... for the right price next time though.

Probably not.

The 480 had issues and was a cut-down version of the 580.

GK100, which was supposed to be the TRUE 680, was scrapped entirely and replaced with a mid-ranged GK104.

The first releases on each gen (Fermi, Kepler) have come with problems.

Expect the same with Maxwell (crippled chip, lower clock speeds, yield issues, etc...).

You can expect to see a fully-unlocked balls-deep Maxwell at the end of the chip's life like the 780Ti; which is unfortunate since "the next big thing" will be close by.

Yea, that's the problem... waiting for that fully unlocked chip is great, but not a lot of time to enjoy it before Volta comes out.

Bleh, still thinking on whether to get GTX 480-style GM100 or GTX 580-style GM110. It will largely depend on what time they come out and for what price. Hopefully not $1000, more like $700 at most, the Titan is the last time i pay a grand for a GPU.

exactly and maybe they can for once not screw up the first revision and then I'll be interested in a GM100. (that is unless they pull a boost 3.0 or a Titan price 2.0)

On the desktop side the GM117 replaces the GK208, a Kepler based entry level part http://www.fudzilla.com/home/item/33628-nvidia-maxwell-coming-in-q1-is-gm117 headscratch.gif

GK208 = GTX 650 / GT 640 Rev2 / GT 630

Yes extend the lead with a slower chip.

possibly hint NVIDIA introducing their mobility lineup based on the 28nm architecture first and then introducing their high end desktop chips for both GeForce and Tesla markets.

Read more: http://wccftech.com/nvidia-maxwell-gm107/#ixzz2qEXz7r2M

That^, so much that. guess there is still a wait for the REAL maxwell.
