Pump placement question

Putting together my first custom loop and I have a few questions while I wait for the two 90 degree barbs I had to order. The loop consists of 2 XSPC EX240 rads (top and front), swiftech apogee HD cpu block, EK 290X block, t with fillport, and a swiftech mcp35x vari. pump. My plan for the loop was as follows, note I realize its current placement (bottom of the cd drive cage) would make the loop a pain to bleed but there isn't much room for the pump in the mid or bottom part of the case.



I was planning on having 4x120 fans on the bottom front rad so I will have even less space on the floor of the case, especially with the sideways mounted hdd cage. I also thought about maybe placing the pump on top of the hdd cage but that blocks all of the front panel headers on the motherboard mad.gif. Here's the current state of everything excluding the pump and the fans on the bottom rad...



Ideas and suggestions?

The pump should be fine in that location. Ensure the pump has plenty of water at the inlet before starting it. You can also reduce the speed initially to speed up bleeding.

OP, have you considered having a reservoir ? Very important especially when filling the loop up for the first time, if the pump runs dry and doesnt have a source of excess water; it will die.

PM'ed you about the reservoir top.

I've thought about a res but again space restrictions are the limiting factor, I'm still a bit worried about bleeding the loop with just the fillport and t, as half a foot of tubing's worth of liquid won't be a lot when bleeding due to the distance between the fillport and pump. Should I really be considering adding a res? How difficult will it be to bleed the loop as is in comparison?

You should add a res because if your water level goes down after the air bubbles have been bled out, you wont have a visual indicator to let you know.

Honestly i didnt have a problem bleeding air out of my loop, just turn down your pump to a lower % (not 100%) and it should bleed rather easily. The only problem i had when bleeding was when the pump was running at 100%. My pump runs at around 30-40% on PWM mode so new air bubbles dont tend to be introduced into the loop.

Is the pump pushing towards the top rad?

When you go to add in fluid and start the pump, you'll only be able to turn the pump on for a second or two until you have your loop fully filled. It's just a pain in the butt to have to start and stop the pump very quickly, just to fill up a small portion of fluid into the loop. A reservoir isn't really necessary, but it makes your life easier when filling the loop, as there would be more "insurance" that your pump won't run dry.

Just picked up an xspc single bay res.

res > pump > bot rad > gpu > cpu > top rad > res would be the proper way to go about this correct?
